After The Wedding Shower

My son recently pretty much eloped with his fiance. They were planning on being married next year, but didn`t want to wait. Though they are not having a reception anytime soon, because they can`t afford to, I would like to give them some type of a shower. I was thinking of a Jack & Jill. Would this be too tacky? If so, what would you suggest.
