Wedding Dress Wanted - Size 18

Greetings folks! I just got engaged in the wee hours of New Years 2003. I`m looking for a dress in Nova Scotia, Canada - My size - my real clothing size - is an 18 (yes, I know that wedding dress sizes run small).

I`m looking to find a deal on a gown. I`m quite tall, about 5`11, and rather large busted, about a 42DD. I`m looking for something that is simple, sleeveless, a tank style top maybe showing a wee bit of cleaveage. Ideally square necked, a fairly simple, non-giant a-line skirt. Trains, detachable is ideal, but I`m open to anything that anyone has in my size. I ask that only people in my province in Canada, respond, as I feel a need to SEE the dress before any decisions are made. Just looking to make a deal here rather than spending thousands on a dress I will only wear once!

Please respond to zhonster@hotmail.com.

Thanks!

Hi Kimberly and congrats on your engagement. I know I`m not from Canada, but just wanted to offer this piece of advice. There is a beautiful line called Diva that specializes in what I call "real sizes"-- 16 to 28. They`re gowns sell for $1,200 to $1,600 USD. They are made in Canada so they should be pretty affordable there. Find a salon that carries the line and at least go look at them. Your not required to buy. Who knows they may even have a discontinued sample that you could get for 1/2 price.

Good Luck

Hi Sharon, thanks for responding.

At this point, I know NOTHING about shopping for a gown, so I very much appreciate your advice! I`ve read online that many stores only have one or two sizes in each style, and those two are usually in the size 10 range. I haven`t gone shopping yet, but I hope that I don`t get into a salon and find only three dresses that I can try on, all of the `tent` variety! I`m a bit nervous about being disappointed when I go shopping. But we shall see. I`ll definitely look into the Diva line and keep you posted!
