Bridal Shower Etiquette

My bridal shower was a few days ago. My mother is upset because my fiance was not able to arrive at the end of the shower and give a mini thank you speech to all the female guests for our gifts. Is there an etiquette that the fiance must arrive at the end and thank everyone for the gifts? And for that matter, must he escort me to my shower?
