We are having a very casual reception, a BBQ brunch type thing, we just told everyone to bring their own beer....saved us a ton of money!!

What`s your budget? Ours is $2,000...we`re having the ceremony at a church (that`s only charging $400 for the ceremony) and renting out a Woman`s Club (they`re charging $500 to rent out their room) and we`re having my mother, godmother, neighbor and his mother, grandmother cook the food for everyone. It`s also a little cheaper to book a somewhere you can have the ceremony and reception in the same place.

For an elegant, but inexpensive wedding try having an afternoon reception at a botanical garden or if you have a good friend or relative with a pretty yard. You can serve lemonade, cold cuts, and other appletizers. An afternoon garden wedding can be very special and affordable. Maybe if there is any money left in the budget you can hire a fiddler or other instramentalist to play at the reception.

What city and state are you in? I am a Hawaiian Food caterer, and I can tell you that $4.75 per person will satisfy the average eater. Luau style weddings are very affordable, and fun. You just need to be a little creative. Some seashells, rafia, tea light candles from Michaels can add alot to a plain table. A mix of Teriyaki Chicken, grilled fish, or something sweet & sour from a chinese hot deli tossed green salad, sticky rice fruit and vegies will run you about $5-$9 per person. Fruit and vegies can be pretty expensive though.

My girlfriend did a "hippy chic" wedding last September. She wore blue jeans, platform sandals and a beautiful white off the shoulder blouse with a ring of white daisies in her hair. I was her maid of honor and wore jeans and a blue hippy blouse and carried yellow daisies. Her invitations to guests asked them to all wear jeans. She did this in her beautiful back yard with a barbecue reception. A friend played guitar. It was the most intimate, carefree wedding I have ever attended and she was a beautiful bride. (Feel free to email me at karueter@yahoo.com for more details.)

I would take into account your and your FH`s interests and plan something very personal. Do you like horses, motorcycles, reading? It doesn`t cost anything to be creative and you can have a one-of-a-kind wedding insteard of the same thing everyone else has.

I don`t know if you will get this message or not but I thought I would post it anyway. I know that I have a very limited budget as well....a $1,000 for the wedding and reception which included buying my gown, bridesmaid dress, four black suits, four other outfits for other bridal party members. The first thing that I have do is to make a list of what I really want as far as decorations, food, etc........ Then I asked family and friends if they knew anyone who could help me with this or that. And actually I found a lot of help. One friend {who owns a jewerly store} gave us our wedding bands, other is doing my dress alterations, others are making all of the food including a four level cake, another making the bows and flower arrangements, others who are helping to decorate and more friends who are going to stay and help to clean up, etc.......... Plus to cut cost I am getting married in the church with my father is a member {I`m not} and that is only costing me $50 for the use of the church and fellowship hall {where I am having my reception} and I get that $50 back after the church is cleaned ~which my friends are also doing.
So ask around and you may be surprised as to what and who can help.

Cherie,

I am interested in your catering suggestions for a Hawaiian themed wedding. Where are you located? Do you cater in the Chicago area?

Thanks!
