Color Of Dress For Mother Of The Groom

My son is getting married in September in Buffalo New York. I believe the mother of the bride is wearing beige or off white. I am considering wearing a black dress - it is not long - it`s just below the knee. My cousin wore a black dress to her son`s wedding about 4 years ago. Is this totally not acceptable? I know it`s not the "traditional" color. What are your ideas?

I think it depends on the dress - as long as it doesn`t look suitable for a funeral, and is perhaps accesorized by a colorful wrap, it would probably be beautfiul. My recommendation: Check with the bride and groom. Some brides are a bit neurotic, grooms less concerned. As long as they have no concerns, go for it!
