Father/Daughter Songs?

I`m looking for the perfect father/daughter song...but there`s a catch. I`ll be dancing to this song with my step-dad. He`s my only father so I feel bad for calling him my step-dad. Finding the perfect song has been a little tough because he`s been in my life since I was 9 years old and a lot of the songs have things in it about being a baby with your father. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

There is a beutiful country song that is a few years old. I can`t remember who sang it but it was popular (contact a country radio station). It is not too hill-billy. The song talks about the stepfather doing all the things he didn`t have to do and being the only father the child knew. I am in the same position and if you find the title let me know.

I am having the same trouble... However it is for my daughter and my husband-to-be. She has her own father in her life but my fiance is an entriquet part of her life too. Did you ever come up with the perfect song?

Butterfly kisses is nice... I just wanted something a little more original, is all. That song is very popular in weddings for father/daughter dance. Thanks for your thoughts though.

Hello,

I will be in a simiar situation someday, my father is sadly deceased but my step dad will be walking me down the aisle some day. I plan to play Brad Paisley`s: He Didn`t Have To Be while we are dancing. I think this may be the song someone above was trying to think of, the words are more geared from a male perspective but the message it get`s across is very sweet. I have enclosed a link to a website which has the lyrics on it.

I hope this helps!!!

Sincerly,
Rebecca

Hi.
I`ve been spending the day searching for a stepfather/stepdaughter song.. My father is deceased and I`ve been a stepdaughter for 16 years (since 12) and keep coming up with the same "top 10"ish responses or songs that are inappropriate... Here are some different findings I`ve collected. Best wishes.. Brandy

To Sir, With Love - 10,000 Maniacs / Lulu / Al Green
You`ve Got a Friend - James Taylor
Moonlight Serenede - Glenn Miller
Bridge Over Trouble Waters - Simon & Garfunkel / Willie Nelson
Colour My World - Chicago

I have had the exact same problem! My stepdad has been in my life since I was 10, he adopted me when I was 13 and nearly every song out there mentions being held as a baby or the first breath you took..etc..

So far my fave is Paul Simon`s Father and Daughter, its not traditional, but its fun.

The chorus of the song is:
Im gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So youll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

Even though he hasn`t been my dad my entire life, I know that "there could never be another father who loves his daughter more than" he loves me!

Good Luck and Happy Planning!

We are having a similar dilemma. My son’s fiancé was raised in foster care. She has no dad or anyone to walk her down the isle. My husband is going to walk her down. It is hard to find a song for father/daughter-in-law dance????? Don’t know. We love this girl. She tells us that we are the mother and father she never had and in our hearts, she’s already a daughter to us. My husband is proud to walk her down the isle, as we had 3 boys. So he gets to do something he never would have been able to do.

The song I like the most is Rascal Flatts: “My wish” - Here is the Lyrics

I hope the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you`re faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin` till you find the window,
If it`s cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you`re out there getting where you`re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but you never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
[ Lyrics found on http://www.metrolyrics.com ]

And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God`s grace, in every mistake,
And always give more than you take.

But More than anything, Yeah, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you`re out there getting where you`re getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish. Yeah.

I could only find the whole song on a Myspace site…just click on their “my wish” to hear it at;
