For announcements, they should actually be sent immediately after the ceremony. It`s a good idea to have them ready to go before the wedding and then ask someone to drop them in the mail for you the day of your wedding or the next day.

Wedding Announcements should include the wedding date, but never the time or location of the ceremony.
