Halloween Wedding
We are getting married on Halloween and on a tight budget since we are paying for it all. Does any one have some low cost ideas for the reception? Any help is appreciated!

If you are wanting to use Halloween decorations for the reception, now would be the time to look for mark down and clearance items. You could always ask friends who may have decorations around their homes if you can borrow them. If they are going to be at your wedding anyway, they won`t be needing them at their home.
For your reception food, I would do finger type foods. A lot cheaper. Start buying non-perishable foods ( such as crackers, chips, drinks) a few months ahead of time and on sale. They wil be fine come the day of the wedding.
If you want it to be dark outside, I would plan on maybe 7:00 or 7:30.
I would do small pumpkins on the tables with candles inside ( tea candles are very cheap!). Maybe have someone or yourself carve a wedding theme on the pumpkin instead of the traditional faces. Rent or borrow a fogger machine if you want.
Favors could be pumpkin seeds.
The possiblities are endless. Depends on how "Halloween" you want it to be.

A Halloween wedding sounds awesome! The ideas about small pumpkins are good! Look at IKEA for bags of like 100 tea lights for a few bucks! If you lookin to save on bridesmaids dresses and tuxes for groomsmen think about a costume theme!!!!! It could be pretty memorable!?!?!?!? Look for some year round party stores/costume stores. They usually have spooky type decorations that will definatley be cheaper this time of year!!!

I`m having a Halloween wedding also, also on a budget. Centerpieces are pumpkins with our initials carved in them. Favors are clear cones filled with candy corn (so cheap on Ebay). We`re having flowers only on the bridal table. Found our DJ and Photographer pretty cheap on Craigs list. Try going to people that don`t have the word wedding attached to their title will do things alot cheaper. Bouquets are burgundy and orange flowers from the supermarket. They have really inexpensive wedding flower packages at Stop and Shop

I went to a halloween wedding a few years ago, and instead of renting tuxedos for the guys, they all wore the tuxedo t shirts. The theme was phantom of the opera and all of the guests wore asked to wear a costume. It was by far the most interesting wedding I`ve ever been too.

I also am having a Halloween themed wedding and a few ideas to think about are when planning the bridesmaid dresses put them in black...sometimes untriditional but is okay. Also, to make the brewing effect in the punch add dry ice it puts off a smokey addition.

I am also planning a Halloween wedding on Oct 30th, 2004 - the biggest problem we are running into is that we want to have it semi-outside to keep with the spooky theme and it gets REAL COLD here (Upstate NY) right now (oct 13th) it is in the 40`s at night and we would like to have the ceremony at around sunset and then the reception after that but don`t know how to heat the outdoors! My parents have a huge old barn that is in good condition that they use for a garage and we could use that but I don`t think tables for 70 people are going to fit in it! Any suggestions?

Are you having a sit down dinner reception? IF not, why not look into either renting or borrowing those little round side table with the table skirts. People usually use them in their homes but would work perfect for a reception with finger type foods. May put 3 or 4 chairs beside it for people to rest on occassion. This will work great too if you are having a dance floor. Just place the tables around the outer edge of the dance floor. Think of how a club is set up.
You could also place chairs side by side along the side too for extra seating.
As far as trying to "heat the outside", if you have guests who smoke, they are used to going out to smoke. Maybe set up a few tables with ashtrays or clay pots with sand in them outside. Also, people may want to step outside for a minute to cool off if you are having the dancing.
Just a thought. Hope it helps!

You can buy or rent patio heaters for outside that are either electric or propane/gas. They heat the surrounding area really well (you can be outside in the winter in a t-shirt around these things). They stand about 8 feet high and are usually silver in colour. Look into renting them from a local party company. Good luck hope this helps
