Wedding Shower

I have a question, my brothers know it all wife is having a shower (lunch time) for her son`s soon to be wife, now she is having it at a Steak and Ale and has written in the invitation that you will need to buy your own lunch. Is this right, I don`t think so, but she knows everything already ans says it is...who is right and who is wrong?
