Wow....
I have been reading these postings and thank many of you for some great ideas. I would not have thought of taking TUMS for the bone loss.
I have been taking the shot for exactly 2 years. I have had several of the symptoms; mood swings, cramping, weightgain. I have the occasional spotting after intercourse, and sometimes spotting that lasts a week as if I am having my period. Enough to be annoying, but not enough to be worried about. I am sure I am up soon for a bone density test. Like a few of our other readers, I take Depo because I have NO CHOICE. I can`t take hormones in the pill or patch because even at age 18 it elevated my blood pressure beyond control. After the pill I tried the OTC foams and potions and became pregnant. After my daughter was born I got an IUD. Loved it and had it for 5 years, until it perferated my uterus and I landed in the emergency room getting a CT Scan. The shot is the only form of birth control I can use. I am 28 and am at the point where another child isn`t out of the question, but certainly not a subject now. With anything you do or put in your body, educate yourself. If in fact, you can`t deal with the symptoms, or are concerned ask or look to your doctor for alternatives. For my situation as long as I can overcome the monthy (I hate my husband week mood swing) it is the choice for me.
