Cheap Sit Down Dinner?

I really want to have a catered sit down dinner at my reception but I only have around $5,000 for the whole wedding. Any ideas would be very appreciated.

My brother in law is getting married this saturday and as my gift, I am preparing the meal. I nominated a few friends to help and......are you ready......its is going to cost about $4/plate!!!! We are having ham and turkey with scallop potatoes or mashed potatoes and gravy. Hot veggies, cheese and crackers, relish trays, buns and deviled eggs. It is going to be buffet and we dont care if it is tacky or not! This couple is very loving and just starting out.
Every dessert imaginable was prepared by the mother and sister of the bride. At 11pm we are setting up cold meats and buns with relish trays and salads etc.
Ii is kind of nice that family members are helping out in this way. It helps people feel like they are a part of the wedding. We are from a small town so this is acceptable for us. Is this an option for you???

I luckily have a friend whom is a catarer, and is doing my sit down dinner for me, just the cost of food as her gift to me! What a wonderful friend, we are having a baked chicken dish (chicken is pretty inexpensive) asparagus, red potatos, green beans with almonds as the alternate green dish, yeast rolls, tea coffee water, and cheese and fruit platters for appetizers, while guests are waiting for us to come down from the church and the wedding cake as dessert, it has costed about $6.00-$7.00 a person which is very good.
