Wedding Reception With Out DJ Or Band ??

We are considering having our reception without a DJ and/or band. The reception location has a sound system that we could play CD`s for background music. Has anyone done this? How did it go? What other activities can we offer besides a dance? Any suggestions would be great.

I am planning a wedding right now that the Bride is doing the same thing with a sound system. In my opinion that is a good idea if you are needing to save money. But if it was a wedding over 300 people I might reconsider.
