Hi Lee - My brother in law is actually a Civil War Re-inactor and very huge into the civil war. He and his wife had a full Civil War wedding a few years back and I know he would be happy to give you pointers on doing it right. If you want me to have him contact you email me at CMBCrafts2004@aol.com and I will send him your information I know he would be happy to help you out.

I have been a professional dress maker for more than half of my life, every kind of wedding that you can think of. The most fun; and maybe the most work was the civil war wedding I did for a Rice Lake, WI in Aug. Of 2001.
No zippers, elastic or ANYTHING that was not available to women in that time period. Every thing that girl wore that day was custom made for her. A corsette & hoop from the east coast, ribbon from the west and the silk & lace I used from the midwest.

The 3rd Minn www.thirdminnesota.com was involved with a Civil War Camp style wedding for one of their members. A quick link to it is It was a great time and inexpensive to boot as wedding prices go. Hope it helps.
