Mother Of Groom

My son is getting married early March. Only 4 weeks away, and I have yet to buy my dress. The mom of bride is wearing ivory sequence tea length, two piece skirt and jacket gown.
Wedding colors are teal(bridesmaid and mens tux vest), light purple and light yellow. I understand my gown should NOT be over done. Any suggestions on what color and style. Thanks!

Dear Cheryl,
I take it that the wedding is a formal affair or style. If the Mother of the Bride is wearing floor length and from the description you gave, it sounds very formal in attire, then you should also wear floor length. You do not have to wear two piece or have sequins, that is really up to you. As to color, you could go with Aubergine/Eggplant or a rich Dark Brown. That would blend with the Tea and Light Yellow very well. You do not mention what area you live in, but I am sure that there are shops that carry formal wear close to you. Check with one of them. They will also be able to help you with the style that flatters your height and figure.Take some samples of the wedding colors that are being used, if the Bride has some to loan you, or get some samples of the colors at a store that carries a selection of fabric and ribbon, such as Jo Ann Fabrics. Since the wedding is coming up very soon, you may not be able to buy something that has to be ordered. You will probably have to find something already in stock. I know that you will look quite beautiful for your son`s wedding and I wish you and all of them a beautiful day.
