Any Info Helpful..... `hehe
Hi everyone!
I believe I have read every message board and website on the net for weddings! `hehe (I am sure you can relate!) Well my sweety and I are planning our wedding for Nov. 2003. (So far away.) `sad face` But we have a good reason. Waiting until we are back in America. We met five years ago when Peter was an exchange student at my high school. We dated then, he left, he came back, I became an exchange student a few hours away from him, a year later, here I am in Germany with him. (oh yeah, he is 21 will be 22 for wedding. I am 20 to be 21.) He is finishing his 2 year degree then we are moving back to America and the great thing is his old host father will be marrying us! So I have plently of time to search the net for ideas. We are getting married in my home town. (smalltown, Mississippi) and we want to have german traditions and southern. `hehe But I cannot find anything on the net for a simple country wedding...(not western..no cowboy boots please.) :-) I did read somewhere about using mason jars for glasses. And I have thought about serving cold lemonade instead of punch. I like that. Also we will have a BBQ and buffet (potluck?) Any creative ideas flowing? German, Southern, or just nice? Or simple recipes? Even advice on a dress! Anything would be such a great help. Thanks y`all!

I helped a friend put together a simple country style wedding a few years back. Her fiance was a farmers son and all the men wore overalls, the ladies as well. Now you dont have to go that far but the guys could wear simple suits and the girls could wear a cotton style dress instead of the usual satin and lace. She also had her bridesmaids carry wildflowers instead of roses. Tied with a ribbon would be wonderful. For you, a white simple cotton dress would be lovely or just have a wedding gown made out of cottons. The BBQ idea sounds wonderful, of course be sure to include all the country favorites: potato salad, baked beans, rolls etc. I had also suggested to her the idea of having lemonade. Depending on how simple you want to make this wedding, you could use a "wash tub" for the punch. I sliced a bunch of lemons and put them in a ring ( like the jello rings you can buy at the store) with water to put in the lemonade ( frozen of course). Maybe add a sprig of mint for looks. Mint and wildflowers also make for lovely reception flowers. For table centerpieces, use the "laura ingalls" lunch pail for flowers. Tie a nice ribbon around it to match your color scheme.A nice addition to her wedding was her unity candle holder, Her fiance made one out of logs. He just cut them to length and nailed them together. They also placed the old timey laterns around the room. Also , consider an outdoor wedding. Anyway I hope this helps! Let me know if you need anymore help.

I`ll get back to you on some recipes. I had the cowboy themed wedding but I called it country. My mom did most of my food so I`ll get some ideas from her.

Thank you so much! You have given me a lot to think about. I am hoping to pull off a classic country wedding. And of course any recipes you can give me would be helpful. Thanks for your time! :-) I like the idea of wash tubs. Maybe even have one with floating candles?? `hmmmm

The regular size washtubs might be a bit big for the candles but check at your craft stores such as Michaels or even Garden Ridge. They may have some smaller versions for your tables. Another idea, especially if you have an outdoor wedding, would be to ride up on an horse and carriage. If you are handy or have someone close to you who is, maybe make an archway out of grapevines. Add a few simple flowers, viola`! Another outdoor idea, instead of chairs for people to sit on, use bales of hay with nice blankets or quilts draped over them. You may be able to borrow some from a farmer if you return them afterwards. I could go on and on. I love themed weddings.

It is funny, at first I didn`t like the idea of Themed Weddings. I kept thinking of Hula girls and cheesy stuff. But the more I read about it, the more I like it! `hehe I think it is a great way to tie in all that you are about into your big day. I just wish I could plan more than one! `hehe I also read about using Mason jars to drink out of. That would be cute b/c we still drink out of them at my grandmother`s house!
