Fat Bride!!

I am writing to complain about a few bridal salons in the NYC area and how they treat fullfigured brides. I am sick ant tired of being treated like crap cause I am not a size 2. I find the small boutiques places have been the nastiest. I would also like to give a major thumbs up to CarbWatchers (www.carbwatchers.net) They have helped me lose weight to be healthier and feel good about myself and they give brides a special goodie bag. I am trying to not wear a plus size for the wedding

First you Congratulate Youself on losing Weight for you. Next look in the Phone Book for Bridal Boutiques in your area. I found a Lovely dress at a boutique where I live but I had visited 2 other shops before I found a Freindly shop. Most carry a Great Selection of Larger dresses.

Ahh i love the support I am getting from other fuller figured brides. I not only have lost some weight lately but I have gained so much self respect. I no longer embarrassed to be full figured and if I am find if a place treating me poorly I just leave. I want to wear a straight gown and I have had too many places telling me honey you need an A-line!!

Mon Amie in Costa Mesa respects all brides! Complain to their face and make them feel shameful.

I`ve been hitting the frankincense hard for the 18 months since my engagement and I`ve gone up 5 (yes, FIVE) sizes.

Not only do I have to have my wedding dress altered, but all my jeans too. Fortunately, I don`t leave the house much, so I can get by with 1 pair of jeans, 2 pairs of skivvies, and no bras.

What`s a witch to do? I need help.

I`m off to Mi-T-Sub for lunch now and will check for responses later.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

For anyone who is a full figured woman looking for a nice shop, please let me know as my best friend is engaged to be married and she is a full figured girl. One sales lady actuaully laughed at her as if brides can`t be heavy! She`s very beautiful. And I think that some girls are much more attractive with more weight than none!

A message to anyone in here, FULL FIGURED BEAUTY`S ROCK! My best friend does. Just keep searching for the right store and you`ll find it.

Good luck to all!

WoW! I thought that only happened to me! I hated those snooty looks...as if wearing white wasn`t bad enough! I finally got my dress at Macy`s (I was too timid to try my luck with bridal places) but if I had only known...there`s really nice tailors out there for cheap willing to reproduce dresses. If I would do it all over again (I won`t!!) I would do that. Keep smiling and enjoy your day. Congratulations!!

We found a beautiful dress at Bridalplus.com. They have sizes up to 40 and were very helpful in fitting my daughter. We got a $1200 dress for $400.

Hi ladies! Well, I`m a plus-sized bride as well. I didn`t have any problems when I tried on gowns at 2 different bridal shops, but they were all just too expensive for me. Well, I bought my gown off Ebay. I got it for $225 including shipping and it`s BEAUTIFUL! There are used gowns on Ebay, but brand new ones as well. The lady I bought mine from has a bridal shop in New Jersey and gets all her gowns from Hong Kong. I gave he my size and the dress was made to order for me! It`s a perfect fit too, I don`t have to get anything altered. Anyway, give Ebay a try! Good luck!

Who is treating you like crap because you are not a size 2? Most women are not size 2. So that means - the bridal boutique treats almost all their female customers bad? I think not. You sound like you think of yourself as a victim.

Layla is right, she to is not a size two, but she is a size 22, perhaps she would appreciate an email from you, she is very lonely and us girls are her only friends. Do what I did I ordered from ebay and got a brand new maggie sottero dress very nice. Dont let anyone treat you bad. Your THEIR customer and you can go somewhere else!! Good luck

I too have had the same problem with being a bigger bride to be. I am getting married in Feburary 2004 and am hoping to drop a few dress sizes to wear a dress that i will feel comfortable in. I have had the same problem here in Australia with store assistants suggesting i get a dress "made" because of my size. Unfortuantly it is not only shop assistants that feel they need to comment on your weight i have even had close family and friends suggest i lose weight before the big day so i have no regrets when i look back at photos. SO i have been going to a dietition for the last 4 weeks and have started with small goals such as lose 1kilo and 1 centremetre a week..small but achievable. My fiance has been fantastic encouraging me ( not that he minds the size i am, he loves me anyway) but to be a supportive husband to be. Good news is i am achieving my short term goals and that is what is making me feel good about myself and my dreams. But i have decided that when i meet my goal and drop the dress sizes i will not be going back to the shops who shunned me as a bigger bride i will go somewhere else.

HOORAY for those who speak their minds. I am a wedding shop and chapel owner in florida and my salon is small but we do alot. In fact it is very hard to find plus size gowns, and being that i am a size 26 and look very good for my weight it helps me sit down and relate ans well as help fing plus size brides exactly what they want and with comfort and confidence. I have brides from all over the u.s. That call me for a variety of services. If you have a hard time with a gown or anything let me know and tell those snobby wanna be perfect brides that yes they may be smaller but men want a woman they can hold on to , if they wanted a bone they could go to the local kentucky fried chicken and get some to go. Women should feel good about theirselves especially on their wedding days. You go girl, keep up the positive thinking!

I`m a Canadian bride who also was a little bigger (about a size 18-20) when I was first engaged (2 years ago). I was so excited to try on dresses for the first time and found myself quite upset that I was treated rudely. The saleslady actually told me that they have to special order bridal gowns that large! She also suggested my next stop be the local weight loss center. She didn`t want to help us, looked annoyed that we might want to try on dresses, and worst of all kicked us out after I had tried on just 2 dresses because a smaller bride came in an would be able to try on more dresses than I would be able to because she was about a size 6 and would easily fit the trial sizes they had in the store. BTW - the largest dresses they had in the store were a size 16 (this is about a size 10-12 in street clothes). I had my revenge though, I`m also a student, and I told every single girl I go to school with (18 of whom are engaged) about my treatment there and every single one has boycott the store. I`ve also run into a few other plus-sized brides who felt they were treated rudely at that store as well. I went a short time later to Bryan`s Bridal in Vancouver B.C. They were wonderfully helpful, had a great selection (a full 1/2 the store was size 16+), and treated me as though I was the most special woman in the store (just a note - Bryans is a larger store as well). This was 1 year ago since I visited them. The first dress store is currently going out of business (after 14 years - I hope that I had something to do with that), I`ve shed 56 lbs. With just 30 lbs. To go, and I also just bought my wedding dress (from Bryans) for $400Can on sale from $1100Can. I love it, and I was pleased with my service because they treated me the same now as they did when I was 56lbs. Heavier... Special. As every bride should be.

Avoid the snobbery of David`s Bridal. While they had exactly the gown and size I wanted, and 5 sales associates were sitting around with their thumbs firmly stuck up their rears, and it is a retail shop, at size 18-20 I was told they did not have time for me to try on the gown. I had also selected another formal dress that was going to leave with me that evening. These people need to wake up! The average female in America wears a size 14. By the way, found mine, brand new on Ebay! $107.50 plus $20 shipping with insurance!

Brains your uneducated thoughtless comment was totally uncalled for. Just shows how shallow of a person you are. I strongly suggest you see the movie "Shallow Hal" .
