Cheap Wedding

I have a girlfriend who will be getting married in early Jan (BEFORE the baby is due). Money is REALLY tight in the family and she is having to prepare for a baby. I am trying to help her find cheap intimate alternatives instead of having a courthouse wedding because I know how important this is to her. Her house isn`t big enough to have it. Immediate family (moms, dads, steps sisters brothers and grandparents) already go past 30 people so it`s still reasonably sized even with cutting the guest list drastically. She doesn`t want to wait untill after the baby and January weather in Kansas City is not one you can have a wedding outside with. All the chapels are too expensive and differences on religion make it impossible to do it in a church. Are there any ideas or suggestions on places she could have this done at? We have already figured out food and most decorations, still looking for a nice pregnant girl type wedding dress, cake and favors are covered and I will take pictures for them for free. We just need a place to have it. Reception will be at her home but there is no way a ceremony can be done there given the size/shape of house and rooms. Help!!! I really don`t want her to have to do a courthouse wedding and neither does she so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Has she considered friends or relatives houses? Eventhough her house is not big enough maybe she has a close friend or relative who would allow her to use their house.

Not really familiar with kansas city regulations(i`m from los angeles), but how about renting a high school auditorium? or the gym? i`m sure you can contact your local school district and inquire about this. Hope this helps! email me if you need more info.
Good luck!!

Alexandra,

First, it is so sweet that you are doing so much for your friend. I know I could use the help! `hehe My sweety and I are planning our wedding and hoping to spend as little as possible. Our problem is that I am from the South so that means...a big family. With just inviting close family we are looking at 85! (Not complaining, I love my crazy family.) First we are having, I think it is called a `potluck`. (buffet) and are having the wedding at a state park. It has a wonderful back porch with a patio perfect for an outside wedding, also it is a big two room lodge with fireplaces and stone walls. (in case of rain) It rents for 80$ a day. (I live in a small town) So maybe there is some kind of a state park, or historic place in the area that will be cheap to rent. `smiles` If nothing else, if she is into skating, rent a skating rink, or a Chucky Cheese! (forever young!) `hehe Hope it helps. I am sure I will be calling on y`all for advice soon! `hugs` Good luck to everyone!

Oh yeah, you can email me if I can be of any help. (I would love to help) It is Kania82@hotmail.com

You`re having the reception in the home, but not enough room for a ceremony? A ceremony done by a JP with no extras, readings, poems, etc. Is VERY short. Guests can stand, they do not have to be seated. Couldn`t that work?

Check out you local VFWs and City/State halls. I`m not familiar with your area, but here we have a lot of parks with banquet facilties and mansions that were deeded to the state. I`m a wedding coordinator. I recently coordinated a wedding/ceremony in one of the cities park pond house. We had both the ceremony and reception inside. I also did a similar event at a local Veteran`s Memorial Hall. We bought in a minister, had the ceremony, and after a cocktail reception. The only thing is that with these type of venues you might have take out insurance, which can be done through your homeowners insurance. It`s call 1-day event insurance. If you don`t own a home, you can have a friend who does rent the facility and the insurance out.
