Another Quinceñera Mom...

I really enjoyed my quince- (my mother did all the planning) way back when and would like to make this a memorable passage for my daughter. .I am planning my daughters Quince- We are beginning now for the August 2003 celebration. And I need HELP FROM START TO FINISH, traditions symbolisims, etc. I would also like to know about the mass- in depth- since I am no longer Catholic I don`t recall what is involved, My daughter knows that the main focus of this celebration is the church service but I was wondering what scripture, etc are used. We live in an Anglo community- do the padrinos have to be Hispanic/ Mexican (other than family), how do I go about explaining to them- the meaning of their role?

Hi
These are some traditions:

Crowning- the mother crowns the quinceanera

Changing of the Shoes- the father changes the quinceaneras shoes from flats to heels. This symbolizes her stepping in to womanhood.

Father/Daughter dance- the quinceanera dances her first dance with her dad symbolizing that he was the first man in her life. Then he hands her over to her escort and they dance the waltz. This includes the court if u are having one.

Porcelain Doll- The quinceanera gives the doll away to her younger sister or relative if she doesnt have a sis. This symbolizes that she is leaving her childhood behind.

I know that Im missing some. Sorry.

Thanks for all your information.. I understand that the church is the most important aspect of the tradion and with that I have emphasized it to my daughter and she too agrees with me. I actually did a lot of research on the symbolization of the items the Quince receives they are... TIARA- crown of life, RING- tie between christ and the Quince, NECKLACE/ CROSS-proclaims her christianity, BRACELET- unending circle of God`s love, EARRINGS- remider to hear god`s word, PRAYER BOOK/BIBLE/ ROSARY- a way to keep God`s word close.
I hope this helps someone else, it was worth the effort to get the true meaning of everything.

Clara, I don`t know if your thanks is towards me or not, but I am willing to help with all the information I have found- I know that my daughters spanish class also did a project on the traditions of our culture. They can`t wait to attend her Quince to get the full effect.
