Wedding Themes
Just a few thoughts on wedding themes: In the wedding themes box above, there is an idea for a Romeo and Juliet wedding above. To me, that just sounds like a bad idea. One has to think about meaning and symbolism a lot in a wedding because they are just about the most symbolism-fraught events out there. Be careful when picking your songs -- listen to the lyrics. And when picking a theme, think about it. Do you want to be identified with a TRAGIC love story? Are you star-crossed lovers? More importantly, in real life, do your families somewhat disapprove of your wedding? Think about it.
I`m planning a fall wedding, and my colors reflect that. But I realized in the course of planning it that it`s easy to get carried away with the theme. I thought about having pumpkin and gourd and fall leaf centerpieces, but do I want my wedding to look like a halloween party? Or thanksgiving time in the school cafeteria? I decided to tone it down a bit and just stick to the fall colors and not a lot of things like leaves, acorns, pumpkins, scarecrows, bales of hay, apples, corn, etc.
I also learned that a theme can limit you a lot. For example, my fall colors theme would dictate an invitation with an envelope that is natural-colored or some other warm color. But when I saw the love stamps that are out right now, I decided white would be a better color for the envelope as the love stamps are very bright, primary colors. Think hard about every aspect of your wedding when considering a theme.
