Accountant Yearning To Be An Event Planner!

I received my bachelor`s degree in accounting, currently am an accounting supervisor, but posess this creative outlet that must come out! I want to be an event planner...how can I go about volunteering to do this, which is probably my first step. Or where can I find a part time evening job for the same?

Hi,

I just came across your question by accident but felt called to reply. I to have that passion so I understand your desire. From my personal experience, event planning is a full time job...not literally like 40 hours but full, life taking over, type job. I have planned events for a while now, small events like partys, to big events like fashion shows and concerts. It seemed that no matter what I did, I was working on the event non-stop around the clock. I`ve learned that no matter how planned and organized the event is, something usually comes up and leaves you working all night or at the last minute. Part time may not be an option unless you get lucky to have someone not get frustrated with you leaving before the job is done. As far as volunteering, I was suggest your local church. Most churches have concerts, major events for men, women, family. Offer your services but don`t be offended if you don`t get used right away. There is always too much work to be done at a church but until they know you are faithful and reliable by deed not by your word, they will scoop you up for projects all the time. But beware, once you are on that band wagon, you will also be pulled to work above and beyond because church volunteers are valuable. A faithful one who works hard is priceless. Good luck!
