Doing The Right Thing Hopefully

I met this guy here in muskogee, ok he was in jail for assault and battery domestic and intimadation of a witness well he said he didn`t do anything wrong he just got accused because his ex- wife had a problem with crack and was pregnant and it made him mad one day and she snatched the crack pipe out of her mouth said he was leaving and when the baby was born he was filing for custody, but now that we are engaged to be married next week it kinda worries me he is in rehab his self now though and out of jail because his ex- wife claims he has the problem, but we can get married with him in there, but i am hopeing he isn`t lying to me about anything so what should I do and should I be worried.
