What is generally an acceptable amount of time prior to a shower that you send out invitations?

I don`t suppose it would be appropriate if a comment was made when an invitation was sent out the week of the shower? I live 2 hours away from the location of the shower I mentioned earlier and had received the invitation on Monday for a shower that was on Saturday. Granted, it is for my niece, but still....
