Steaming Wedding Gown
My daughter is getting married in two weeks and I need to know how to steam her new wedding gown. We used to just hang them in the bathroom and steam the room up with steam from the shower. There is beading etc. All over the gown. It has a long train. I don`t see where this will damage the gown. Please let me know. We live up north in NY and they want 100 dollars to steam it at the dry cleaners, but I don`t trust them. Plus our heating oil has gone out of this world.
Thank you

Mary,
It depends on what the fabric is, and not so much what the decorations are.
If it is satin, tulle, chiffon, or any other synthetic fiber, the steam will not damage it. (I`m not sure the shower will create enough steam to get the wrinkles out, though).
If it is silk/satin or 100% silk do not steam it, iron it with a completely dry iron on a very low setting.
You might check with the bridal shop where you bought it; sometimes they do it a lot cheaper than the dry cleaner.
