Black & White Wedding Theme - HELP!!!

I am looking to have a strictly black & white wedding. IF you have any suggestions (including websites or pictures) for cakes, floral arrangements, aisle runners, reception hall decorating, etc. I would be very grateful!

*Please do not tell me to add another color, as that would really be the last resort.

Think Polka Dots

White table cloths with black napkins for accents.

Tuxedo and Gown boxes for favors (black and white) fill them with your favorite candy or jordan almonds.

Glass cylinders with white floating candles, tie a black ribbon around the cylinder, set atop a mirror sprinkle white flower petals with a touch of black confetti or glitter and you have your centerpieces.

Just ideas, hope they help

Hi Aimee! I`m planning an all black and white wedding myself for Fall 2006. I was inspired by a bride I saw walking through a casino in Los Vegas with a jaw dropping wedding dress. Strapless A line with a thin band of black satin ribbon around the top & bottom of the dress, & along the bottom of the veil. So far I`m thinking about calylillies tied with black satin ribbon, sheet music rolled & tied with blk. Ribbon to incorporate in centerpieces. We are marrying in New Orleans, so I`m thinking of white fans inscribed with a poem in black as favors (and function if it`s still hot!) Lastly (so far), I found card stock that is ivory/black edge, and bright white/black edge at these sites: www.dickblick.com & www.jerrysartarama.com We will use B&W photos affixed on the front, invites & announcements printed inside (a bit less traditional). I`d love to hear what ideas you`ve come up with yourself! Good luck!

Julie:
New Orleans is devastated; God bless all those people. You had some wonderful ideas; I hope that you are able to relocate your wedding. :) If you live in New Orleans I hope that you are ok.

Here are the ideas that I`ve come up with so far!
-I`m really loviing the wedding dresses that have satin wrapped around the waist or under the bust; some are tied in bows and some are just bands of satin. I`ve contacted Monique Lhuillier to see what the dress of hers costs and what the surcharge would be to customize the satin band to have it in black; there`s a rhinestone pendant in the middle of the sash. If it`s super expensive I`ve already contacted a few seamstresses to have them make me a replicate of the dress.
-I`m tinking of having a black runner and have the flower girl toss white rose petals unto it
-For my bouquet (right now) I`m really liking orchids, cala lillies, gardenias, snow berries and bear grass. I`m going to have the stem wrapped in black satin. I also like the white anemones since they have black centers.
-My bridesmaids are wearing a black satin dress from After Six.
-I`m going to have a black wedding cake with the fondant (or whatever term) white flowers scattered around it.
-The reception hall I`m using has the regular floor length white table linens, however I`m special ordering a smaller black table linen to drap over the white.
-For centerpieces I like the small square vases (this way they won`t obscure anyone`s views); I`m thinking three to a table, but that`s up to my flower guy! I`m thinking of using gardenias or hydrengas with black and white pebbles in the bottoms of the vases.
-I`m still looking for invitations, but have contacted some places to see what they charge to make custom ones. This has been the hardest part for me; finding the perfect invitation!
-My flower girl will wear a white dress with a black sash around the waist that ties into a big bow in the back.
-For the wedding book table, I`ve found black and white groom and bride confetti that I`m going to scatter and have a floral arrangment.
-That`s all I think I have so far, but when I think of anything else I`ll post it up here!

Aimee...thanks so much for sharing your ideas! They sound great! Your dress sounds spectacular! My Maid of Honor just showed me white anemones also... BEAUTIFUL!

Thanks also for the concern about the change in our plans. Luckily, we do not live in New Orleans, we`re actually far out of harms way in Maryland. Luckily also (relatively that is), my trip to N.O to put down all deposits, was the weekend after the hurricane, so besides the disappointment, we are more than fine. Now, we are relocating the wedding to Austin or San Antonio, and going to have a BIG(easy) anniversary in New Orleans with all our friends when the town is back on it`s feet!

I`ll keep my eyes open for good resources for invites. I have that figured out with the links I sent before, but mine are going to be semi-formal with a B&W architectural photo from our destination city on the front. My maid of honor, a pro-photographer, made a few mock-up`s for me for New Orleans, which now I`ll keep forever as a reminder of this devistating storm. None the less, if I see something in my seemingly endless research that`s more formal, I`ll post you! Best wishes!!!

Aimee...just happened to come across this if you haven`t seen it yet. Einvite.com has some very classy invitations. I came across a B&W Toile that is imprintable, there are also several others with Black satin ribbon ties. Here`s the link to the Toile one:

I`m thinking of having a specialty cocktail hour for the first hour of my reception, with passed h`or d`eurves. I am making up a list of drinks and am wondering if there is any type of liqueur that is black. The Godiva Dark is pretty close and the bartender can mix that with vodka and chill it and then swirl in either some cream or Godiva White for a fun black and white drink! :) I know I`m probably outta control with trying to come up with black and white drinks, but I`ll have other specialty drinks available too, but I just thought it sounds so fun and cool! :) Another one I came up with would be a Godiva white martini with dark chocolate shavings on top.

Hi Aimee

I e-mailed you. BTW I don`t think you are "out of control", you seem to be having fun planning your wedding, which is as it should be!. The drinks are a very fun and delectable idea! I really like your idea for the martini.

Hi Aimee! I spoke with a couple of friends who are in the restaurant business and bartenders (they also are in my wedding party). The godiva dark and white martini`s sound beautiful, I`ve never tried them, but they warned they may be more suited for an after dinner drink, just b/c of the chocolate aspect??? Idea`s they threw out, just for a couple extra options were
-`Black` or `White` Russians, more for the name b/c they do LOOK more coffeeish.
- She said there is a new Coffee flavored Petron out now, that is BLACK ...but wasn`t sure what to do with it (?ask your bartender? Petron`s $$$ too).
- One thing I thought of was, a drink I had in Puerto Rico called a `Pirote`...a blend of bacardi rums (light, dark, &151) with Coconut Milk and a dash of nutmeg shaken. It`s `white` and refreshing, and could be garnished with a couple of coffee beans???
- I went to a wedding once where white wine was served with an edible flower submerged in it...it was so pretty that I drank at least one too many!

One thing I started today was a Black & White photo journal of my fiance and I over the (5) years of dating to share with our guests. Vacations, engagement, pic`s over years with the friends in our wedding party, and documenting the year ahead until our wedding.

Just a few ideas to throw around...can`t wait to get my new location settled so I can finalize more plans myself. BTW, when is your date?

Thanks Julies for the drink ideas! You are just a fountain of knowledge; keep it coming please! :)

I have also decided to have the head table, wedding book table and gift tables all skirted in black.

Here are two websites that I came across that make custom runners. They also have plain colors in case anyone was interested in these!

Www.originalrunners.com (they make custom runners and even handpaint the details).

Www.aisleswithstyle.com (they picture a black runners with the bride and groom`s name and wedding date white (or it may be silver) on the front page)
