Renewing your vows means that you are already married, but you are having a ceremony to reconfirm your commitment to each other. People will typically do this for their 5 or 10 year anniversary. Some newlyweds who get married at a destination or a JP will sometimes do this after a few months when they get home or when they can afford it.
