Mother Of The Groom Dress

Is it appropriate to wear a long dress (no beads) to an 11:30 am ceremony/noon reception? Mother of the bride is planning on wearing a long dress.

One should respect the Bride. HOWEVER.....the Bride should be considerate of her future mother-in-law. The mother-in-law will be attending already having little say about how things are, and being the last to decide any fashion. It is very hard to be the last place. I know....I am the mom of two sons. To me is is a bunch of old fashion "hog wash" to have to wait for the Bride and her mother to choose what they will wear before you can even think of yourself. You too have to look pretty for pictures....there are polite ways to handle it...but if my future daughter in law asked me not to wear pants...I t hink I could control myself. Color? That is a different story in itself.

I think if the Mother of the Bride is wearing a long dress you certainly can also. I was told by the florist that the brides dress dictates the formality of the day not the time. So if the bride is going with a tradtional formal gown then you should go long. If it is a brunch and the bride is wearing a suit or a simle gown a less formal knee length for both Moms would be appropriate. I am also having a brunch.I`m going all out formal dress, guys in tuxes so the Moms will have long dresses. I told them I don`t care what color they wear but to please make it something that goes with my theme (fall Wedding) or the bridesmaids dresses which are a shimmery brown. That leaves them taupe, browns, burgandy, golds, rust etc.....

Why not? but the formality of the reception should still be considered. But in the philippines, it is a tradition for the elite families to always wear a long dress for weddings
