DBS CLOSED?

FYI to all you girls!
I was just told from a very good source within the bridal indusrty that Discount Bridal Service or DBS maybe going out of business!! DBS headquaters is Martins Bridal out of Baltimore, MD and the word is that that are "closed for two weeks" while all their DBS dealers can not get their orders shipped to them from the DBS Headquaters aka Martin`s Bridal.
So if you have placed your orders through ANY DBS dealer - BEWARE!! There have been many brides who have had to find their gowns somewhere else! Dont be caught off guard!! Check the status of your orders if you ordered ANYTHING through ANY DBS dealer!!

It`s about time. Their "dealers" are not in the bridal business, they usually are individuals who want to play bridal boutique. They are transshippers, a third party not able to get gowns directly from the factory for themselves.

Nothing cruel meant. I mearly wonder why they don`t open a shop, and not have to be at the mercy of a middleman

No, I am not a bridal shop owner. What I am asking/saying is this-- If there is a problem with my gown, will the person who sold it to me be able to rectify a problem? As far as I am concerned you are correct in the statement about transshippers. Yes, they all come from the same place. But, in all reality, if a gown is damaged, wrong color etc. Who really handles the problem? Does this dealer have the option to call the company directly and get what they want?

I did not say there was anything wrong with BEING a middleman. My concern was being at the mercy of one. The point I was trying to make ( and I think is being missed) is that the individual DBS dealers cannot contact their companies DIRECTLY, which puts them in a difficult (to say the least) position. This was what I was asking earlier.
If you have a ranting, raving bride that demands whatever is wrong be fixed, can the dealer call and fix it or do they have to contact the actual company (not DBS the actual dress company) and get the problem resolved. It seems that DBS has placed their dealers in a precarious position.

Quit beating up Lissa. I have been in the bridal business for over 12 years, 5 with a small private owned shop. Every day we would get shopped by brides who needed to be measured, see color swatches, and to try on dresses.

We could spend HOURS with a bride, just so she could place her order with a faceless woman who took phone calls out of her basement.

And no, not all DBS dealers fix problems. Not all of them are about the bride. Wrong color--sorry. Too small--Lose weight. Too big---get it altered. Wrong style ordered---this one is nice too.

I am speaking from experience here. My heart goes out to all you poor brides out there. PLEASE go to a FSBS in your area with the style number, color, and sizes you ordered. They may be able to help you get your dresses!!!!

Also, if you placed the order on a charge...DISPUTE it! Don`t let them steal your money. You paid for merchandise and a service you did not receive!

Best of luck to you all. And have faith. It will all work out.

I am not a bridal shop owner, nor do I run a bridal shop. Honestly, I don`t understand what most of you have posted on this site. I was just trying to get some info on the closing of Martin`s in Baltimore. What I am is a bridesmaid who is out $173.08, without a dress for my friend`s wedding. Apparently I am SOL being a bridesmaid because the company is bankrupt. It sucks. Is there anything I can do? My order was placed April 14. Any suggestions??
