I Can`t Afford A Reception:(
HI! ok i am getting married and i was gonna have a very small wedding and a reception afterward. Well the reception is completely an unrealistic goal for us at the moment. But I was gonna have one of those receptions w/ the dancing and the bride and grooms first dance and all that. The cake and bouquet toss . But the way things are looking we are gonna get married now and have a reception a few months down the road. Does this mean i have to have one of those quiet boring receptions? or can i still have the dancing and the party reception?i`m guessing i can`t do the bouquet toss. And i am also worried that the ppl in the wedding party at my wedding won`t all show up to the reception. Since there is such a gap between the two. Help me i need advice!

Try getting a VFW hall they are not expensive. And look around on e-bay they have good deals. My budget for the reception is only $600 and I have everything set.

Well, September Bride, it all depends on what you call a "boring" reception. I`m coordinating my younger sister`s wedding & they are a little budget sensitive also. They are having their reception at a restaurant and have kindly worded in the invitation for guests to take care of their own meals. But b/c it is at a public restaurant, some things had to be sacrificed, liked the dancing and the bouquet toss (which neither my sister wanted to do anyway). But, instead of the toss, you can opt to "dedicate" your bouquet to someone. Hope this helps.

Dont be scared to ask your family for help tell them the truth im sure they will understand . Have a small house party with a pot luck! thats were everyone takes a little something. Turn on the radio and have some fun after all its about being together with family not how much money you can spend.
Just make it sweet and special

This may sound weird but you may still be able to have your reception. Why not make it a cookout everyone bring a dish or desert. I have had people in my family do things like that. It all works out. I`m getting ready to get married myself.I`m wanting an out door wedding. Well goodluck to you.

I forgot to add this also I have done this also for around 25 dollars you can go to goodwill or some kind of thrift shop.(don`t be embarrassed) And get wine glasses or champagne glasses. Go to walmart or some other store. Buy glitter glue and your wedding colors in flowers and ribbon. Spread the glue around the top of the bottom of the glass not on the stem. Then put glitter on it allow to dry then use a hot glue gun to put flowers and ribbon on. You then have a cheap center peice that will look great.

Ok i am not asking for tips on how to have a cheap reception... I am asking that in a couple months when i do have my reception, can i have a normal reception w/ the dj and and all the traditional wedding stuff like first dance and stuff. Or do i have to have a boring reception where ppl come, eat, mingle, and leave...

No, many people have their receptions after the honeymoon. The reasons are vast and varied. For instance I have some firends who met and lived in NYC, but had the majority of their family in Europe, so they held two recptions one four months later, white dress and all, not the Vera Wang, but still a huge party...done all the time by people who have no budget constraints. The limuit is about a year, you are technically a bride for a year. By the way...you should check out the Oprah site (yes the Oprah site) she had a show last year that blew away both she and her viewers. The bride called local shops (floral, cater, DJ, Photographer etc..) and gave credit to them in their reception program and at the reception in which gave them exposure and advertising and reduced the cost of the reception by as much ad 75%. Some establishments were so eager to be a part of it that they gave their services all together. You have to have a party large enough to "sell" the idea though. Its not worth their time if you have a party of 50 people, a bonus for them is that they get to write it off as a business expense, so everyone wins. This can be so tastefully done. You may consider as a token and yet another selling point, to ask the guests to donate to an agreed upon charity in leiu of gifts. This is of course if you can do so. It adds huge amounts of class and that goes a long way..good luck
