Making Wedding Veils
I planning on making my daughter`s wedding veil. I didn`t want to buy a veil pattern ($15) and had seen some instructions on line as to how to make it but can`t seem to find it now. Does anyone know of a website with detailed instructions? Also, I can`t seem to find a store that carries the metal hair combs. I need ideas on where to buy them.

You made a great choice to make the veil instead of buying one. I just finished making one that retails at bridal stores for $180.00 and only cost me $14.00 to make. Believe it or not you don`t need a pattern to make a veil....i`ve never used one. I purchase tulle from the fabric store that is 72 inches in width....you can get it in either 56 or 108 inches too.....it just depends on how full you want it. Depending on how many layers you need....the one i did was just one chapel length veil....you need to fold it in half. I place mine on my floor and fold it the length wise and then cut it to curve the corners so they match. To get a small edge on the veil i used what is called pearled cotton...i purchased it at hobby lobby for just over a dollar. I then used the sewing machine and did a small zig zag over the pearled cotton on the edge of the veil. You don`t have to be perfect because it will just close in on it`s own when sewed. From there you can glue some pearls or sequeces on them. Then at the top i gather the veil using a needle and thread, weaving in and out about every quarter inch or so. Then i just sew it on to a comb...making sure that it overlaps to the inside of the comb. It is really easy and even if you mess up it isn`t that expensive to start over. You might check at a local jewelry store (like those in the mall) for a metal comb....that`s the only place i can find them. Any other questions you just need to ask....good luck.
