Myself and my fiancee are planning a wedding in sep or nov of 2005. We`ve worked out that we have a budget of $2000 for the reception. We`re getting married in the la county area and were wondering if any one has any suggestions

First of all where do you live? And are you having a themed wedding? What exactly are you going for, formal or casual?

Make your own favors. Make your own invitations if you haven`t ordered them yet. If you`re uneasy about that, you can buy blank invitation kits from any stationery, office supply, or party store and print them at home. It`s easy. Get flowers at bulk cost and arrange them yourself. Certain flower growers sell at a farmers market weekly and you can arrange a pick-up date with them or you can try internet flower vendors which will sell in bulk at a lower cost for weddings.
Hold the reception on a weekday. If you can`t, choose a Sunday instead of a Sat. Many reception sites/vendors charge less for weekdays/Sundays versus Saturdays. Have a lunch reception instead of a dinner reception. Lunch menus are usually cheaper. Rent out a park site or community center and find an inexpensive caterer. Usually this is a cheaper alternative than holding a reception in a fancy restaurant.

Are you a good cook? Keep your wedding small and have you and your wedding party cook the meal! Having a good old fashion BBQ in someones backyard or at a public site is also really fun and inexpensive. A good way to decorate is if the reception is outside at night, hang white xmas lights all around, that looks really pretty. Target has started carrying a make your own wedding invitation line, alot of it can be done on your computer. Fridays and Sundays are the best for inexpensive weddings. You can rent or borrow a dress. If you get a place on a Saturday, see if the wedding party before/after you is willing to share the flowers. Split the cost between the 2 parties. Try to make your own wedding cake, or better yet, get pretty cupcakes from a yummy bakery and purchase a capcake tree and there you go, a cupcake cake! Have the groom and his groomsmen rent from the same tux place, alot of the time they will rent the groom his tux for free when the wedding party rents. Have a friend take pictures, or hire a photographer for only the ceremony and the hour afterwards. Have close friend officiate the ceremony. Or you could always take out a small loan to pay for the extras. Hope this helps, good luck!
