Gap Between Wedding And Reception

The church we are getting married at only offers the wedding at 2:00pm. My fiance and I wanted an evening reception so we planned on doing pictures after the ceremony from about 3-4, then taking a limo for a little while with our wedding party and arriving at the reception by 5pm, dinner about 5:30. The reception hall will be open this whole time, my mom feels like we`re really putting her friends out and that we`re going to be making her look bad by doing this. Are we being ridiculous or is this socially acceptable to do?

Thats too long of a wait for your guests. Normally the hour after the wedding is the time you take pictures, while your guests arrive at the hall and enjoy basically a social hour with appetizers and drinks. You may want to find another church or location to the have the ceremony closer to the reception time or, move your reception time down. Its not fair to make the guests wait that long, that means your basically having an 8 hour wedding day and people have other things to do, no offense. I don`t see how it makes your mom look bad, but it does make thigns uncomfortable.

Are you kidding? Two hours is in no way too long to make guests wait. I don`t ever remember being at a wedding where the reception started immediately after the wedding, especially since most weddings and receptions occur at different venues. People love to mingle, and of course they understand that picture taking takes time. And why is your mother only thinking of her friends? If she thinks this is such a problem, why didn`t she say it was unfair to ALL of your guests? Not only that, I have to disagree slightly about people having other things to do on the day of your wedding. I don`t know of many people who have to cut the reception short so they can fit in that dentist appointment , do their grocery shopping, or return home to clean their garages. These guests are your family and friends. Of course they want to spend the day with you and if they can`t they wont. It`s that simple.
