I, personally, think it is better if you and your dear fiance try to make a weddding budget and start saving your money. There is no rush to get married so maybe you should try to wait until you have a little money to have a wedding and to start a new life together with. You have to do what you are comfortable with but a wedding should be whatever the two of you want to have. If you want a big wedding, then save for a big wedding. If you want to elope and have a reception then do that. Whatever is going to make the two of you happy is what is important. The only thing I would be really careful about is letting anyone, your parents or his parents, take too much control of your life or make you feel like you "owe" them for life. That is a bad way to start a marriage. I am 33 years-old and my fiance is 46. We have been together for almost 3 years and I am in nursing school so I wouldn`t get married until I had the money saved up to do so, which we will be getting married in December. He proposed to me almost 3 years ago and we have been planning our wedding for that long.
