Interracial Weddings

Hi! I`m new here. Was wondering if anyone is planning an IR wedding? If so - maybe we can exchange a few tips?

How`s this for sticky. My August 2006 wedding goes far beyond the reaches of interracial. Me: 22, first marriage, African American, Christian and moderately religious with a large extended family. Him: 38, second marriage, caucasian, Jewish but no longer practicing and only speaking to his brother. I have no idea what to do to include everyone`s interests! If I have the ceremony in my southern baptist church, he`ll undoubtedly be uncomfortable. If we go to a reformed synagouge, my mother will mourn me. If we play too much r&b and pop music at the reception, I`ll alienate his buddies. If we play too much classic rock, my friends will surely clear the floor (not to mention I don`t want my first dance to be to Stix "come sail away"). I`m tearing my hair out here!

I`m not planning an ir marriage, but I wanted to let you know that we have a beautiful interchangeable bride and groom cake topper available on our website (www.daisy-days.weddingstar.ca). There are 6 brides and 6 grooms to choose from with different ethnicities and hair colors.

I hope that helps! Have a great day!

Hi
I too am black with a white groom. We decided to do a non traditional wedding "Hawaiian style". Everyone loves Hawaii so all will be pleased. Maybe something similar will work for you. I was raised southern baptist too and he is lutheran although not practicing either. We decided not to have the wedding in a church because we felt it would be too uncomfortable for either religion. As far as the music goes, just play a mix of both. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce both sides to diverse music styles. For your first dance, choose a song that is meaningful to the both of you regardless of genre or style. A good crossover hit might help. Remember, this day is about the two of you and what`s special for you so don`t worry yourself too much about the playlist. It`ll all work out in the end

Hi,
My fiance is from Peru. His first time in the US will be to get married and most of my friends will be meeting him for the first time at the wedding, so i want to incorporate some of his culture into the wedding. I dont where where your fiance is from, but I am going to have the dinner be a typical peruvian meal, have some spanish music of course. If my bugdet will allow, i want to have a peruvian dance performed. So you could have a favorite meal or dessert from where you or your fiance is from. Have some songs that relate to the different culture. Or you could have some decorations that theme...like asian, latin, hawaiian, etc. Ask him what things are special to him, or what could make the wedding have a taste of his race/culture/background, etc.

Well, my fiance is from Mexico but was born and raised in California. My colors are chocolate brown and sof t pink. Our food? Well, I`m not sure. It is still up in the air about that but our music will be a mixture of almost everything. I`m stuck on the decorations though. I have a small idea about the center pieces but then the rest of the hall...I`m not so sure of. I am trying to make alot of my stuff and have no clue as to what to make. HELP? Any ideas? ;) Thanks

We can find anything online, can`t we?!?! I love that I`m now part of the IR club...never heard of the abbreviation : ) Like you all, I`m planning an interracial wedding, which also happens to be IC (intercultural). My fiance is from Haiti, and I`m from the U.S.

My question has nothing to do with that, though! Any inexpensive favor ideas? I`m from Florida, so we`re getting married there. I don`t want placecards, and I want something simple..maybe something with an inspirational message on it...but there`s a lot of cheesey, expensive wedding favors out there. Ideas? Thanks!

I have only begun to start planning my wedding. My soon to be husband is Hispanic and I am white. To make things more complicated, he is Roman Catholic and I am Methodist and I am divorced and he has never been married. So as you can see I need all the help I can get. If there is any one who can please give me some tips or has any advice I could use it. We plan to get married in July 08 so time is also an issue.

I am A.A and my husband to be is caucasian orthodox we have different culture and background. But in my opinion that day should be about the 2 of you not about pleasing family and friends and trust me I know it is easier saying than done. So close your eye and picture your wedding. What do want it to look like what music do you want and how do you want to feel. Create that athmosphere for yoursef. It`s your day !!!! and congrastulations

Amen, Alexi! I was 37 when I got married last year; the reason I mention it is because being a little older helped me remember that it was about him and me, and everyone else just needed to come along and enjoy the ride!
