DO NOT REGISTER AT TARGET!
I have to post my disappointment in Target. First off, we did them a favor by registering with them and we get screwed over??? Not a good thing.
We received 2 items that were broken from our Target registry. Ofcourse there were no gift receipts with those gifts. We figure since we don`t want money back, we want to exchange for the same item or get a store credit, they should have no problem... Well we were wrong....
We told them what we would like to do, and one of the managers throws us attitude about how their policy changed TODAY and that there was absolutely nothing they could do for us. We were livid... They were damaged goods and we expressed our unhappiness with their NEW policy and demanded that we talk to the store manager.... Who after another headache was able to take one of the items back, but couldn`t take the other back because it was over $10. So now we are stuck with a lamp that has a manufacturer defect sitting in a box in our garage. Total crap!
I don`t understand Target, you would think that they would want to keep customers happy, especially ones who brought them so much business. They probably don`t realize that there are plenty of stores out there that care about keeping satisfied customers.
So, to sum it up....
AVOID THE LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HEADACHE AND DO NOT REGISTER AT TARGET!!!

I used to work at Target and you should have no problem exchanging it for the SAME thing. As long as it is broken and you are just exchanging it, there should be no problem. Also, if you print up a copy of your registry, there is a barcode on it that they can scan (used like a reciept) and it can be exchanged that way. Retry with that, or take it to a different Target. Yes, they should be more than happy to get you what you want. I worked at the service desk and I always tried to do what I could, especially when it came to gifts that you obviously do not have a reciept for. As long as you are not asking for money back (or a merchandise voucher) and it is simply an even exchange, there should be no problem. However, they do have a strict policy and that kind of stinks sometimes.

Even better, we were told before we registered, because we checked to make sure we could return things, that anything on the registry can be returned with or without a gift receipt for store credit.
We received two broken items, and because they were over $20, they wouldn`t return them at all. They tried giving us the manufacturer number and couldn`t even find their contact info.
Before you blame our guests, these items were mailed from target.com to them and the broken areas could not be seen outside of the package.
Bed bath and beyond, belk, etc, are all good alternatives. We have never had a problem with them taking items back, especially broken ones.
I understand that policies change and some stores are tighter than others, but Target either lied to us or changed their policy after we registered, either way, they should honor the one they told us. We would have never registered their had they told us this current policy.
