How Important Are Wedding Favors?
I do not understand the purpose of a wedding favor. Weddings are not exactly cheap, even with you are being as cost effective as possible. I was planniing on feeding my guests and providing a band for dancing. Now my BM`s tell me that I need wedding favors too!
What is the purpose of a wedding favor? Are they a must have or is that something the people selling them are trying to make you believe? Would it be rude of me not to have any?
Any other brides to be or newly married brides, having issues with wedding favors too?
IF they are a must have, just how many items per guest and what is the appropriate amount to spend on each item?

Dear Neona:
Wedding favors are not an absolutely necessary item at a wedding, especially when you are being cost conscious. They are traditionally a nice memento for your guests at the wedding. They can be as simple as candy wrapped in tulle and tied with a ribbon, or as elaborate as small engraved sterling picture frames. The ideal way to figure out the cost of favors is to decide what you like versus how many people you are having. If you are having a lot of couples, just put one favor per couple on the tables. If you have a lot of singles then set out a small amount on a table near your guest book, that your guests can take one on the way out the door. It`s all up to you!
I hope this helps, and please feel free to email me anytime!

Favors can be really cheap. WalMart carries bubble and the little bells. They can serve as decorations for the tables, and the guests can take them home.

We paid for the wedding ourselves and I saw wedding favors as an unnecessary expense. I couldn`t believe the favors that are out there too. How many of us really take that picture framed engraved with the bride & grooms name and ever use it. Or play that cd that has the bride & groom`s fav songs. Yes you can go cheaper and just do cany in some tulle or candybars but why? I was on a budget and wanted to spend that money to have good food and an open bar, two things I know my guests would appreciate more then any favor. But it boils down to personal prefereance. Some people will judge your wedding no matter what do just do what you want!! Good luck and I hope this helped.

Dear Neona,I waited all my 33 years to get married and you better be sure that when I say I do my guests will remember me after June 25th,(next month). Our ceremony will be a candlelight mass so one very cost effective way we encorporated the giving of a favor was by having the drip cards for the candles being held during the reading of our vows printed with a floral design, our names and the wedding date.Another favor will be all the ceremonial music (Kenny G and various Love songs),will be given on a burnt CD with the top of each featuring a round floral sticker again with our names and wedding date, this cost me all of $45 I.I burnt the cd`s myself bought plain sleeves with the see through window to show the floral sticker and sealed them with flower seal I had previously ordered.Another inexpensive favor we`ll be having is Jordan almonds.Buy yourself a couple 5lb bags go out to a fabric store and purchase some tulle(net).Cut the tulle into small circles of about 4" across and put a couple almonds inside.Get you some of that ribbon that curls up when you pull a scissors across it (gift ribbon),and fasten each piece of tulle. If you have any more questions e-mail me at lifsava@hotmail.com.I got most of my ideas from JeanM essentials online. All the best to you and don`t be a stranger.!!
