Reception Saga (HELP!)

My sister is getting married, and her and her fiancee cannot agree on a location. He wants it in downtown DC, and she would rather have it in a resort or mansion of some sort in Maryland. If they were to have the wedding in DC, it would cost $40,000+, and my sister doesn`t want to spend all of that money on the wedding. She would rather spend it on buying a house or something. She would love to have the reception in DC, but it is too expensive. Also, her fiancee`s family is from New Jersey, so having the reseption in Maryland would be more convenient for them. But he would rather have it in DC, because there is more stuff to do, for the out-of-town guests. They don`t know what to do. Please help!

Personally I would have it in New Jersey where his family is from. It makes more sense. To me it would be an inconveniance to have to drive that far plus the expense i.e. Driving cost (and time), hotel, money spent on things to pass the time, eating expense etc. Let alone the money thier guests would be spending on a gift. Seems it would cost thier guests a little bit of money to attend. Your sister makes allot of sense to use some of the money for a home. Why spend more when you don`t have to?
Hope everything worls out ok. He should be more considerate of thier guests. Just my opinion.

Melody -- if you had the wedding & reception at some place like the Southern Mansion in Cape May, New Jersey, the guests would be close enough to get to Atlantic City. Also, Cape May has great restaurants and always something going on at night.

Maryland has some great spots, too. If your fiancee wants the guests to have night life, what about the Ocean City area? On the Eastern Shore, you could look to the St.Michael`s area for the wedding/reception spot (Inn at Perry Cabin?) -- there is a longish drive across the Bay Bridge, but the guests could go into Annapolis.

I used to do event planning in the area, so if you need any tips about places, feel free to email me!
