Promise Ring
I`m only 13 years old. I know probable all of you are like in your twenty`s. I`m NOT calling you old or anything, but.. Well you know what I mean. I hope. But anyways my dad gave his girlfriend a promise ring this past weekend and i was happy at that moment but now that i think about it i wonder " what the heck is a promise ring?" and i was wondering if someone could tell me what it means. They have only been going out for about a month and three or four days. Which isn`t very long. Does this mean they are going to get married? my dad is supposed to get remarried to my mom. But now i`m just confused. Can someone help me understand?

I am 16 so i dont know if the thing with your dad and that lady r the same but a promise ring doesnt necessarally mean someone is going to get married even though since they r adults mabey they r kind of leaning towards that. In my high school guys give promise rings to their girlfriends meaning that they promise not to cheat on you and they want to be with you and love what you guys have together. I dont know if that is the same in your case but an engagement ring is what means you plan to get married. Hope that kind of helped u better understand:-)

I am twenty years old and I received a promise ring from my boyfriend of three years this past Christmas. This was how he promised to marry me someday, because even though it isn`t the right time for an engagement now, the ring was a sort of a pre-engagement ring. The terms are different for each person, so it may be best for you to ask your father what exactly he was promising this woman, as it may just be friendship. However, I have not known of anyone who gives a promise ring for any other reason other than to symbolize a romantic and intimate committment , like marriage. Hope this helps you a little, but make sure you ask your father about it too... :)
