Candle Lighting Alternative?

Wondering if anyone has alternative ideas to the traditional candle lighting ceremony? my son is being bar mitzvah`d soon and of course, we can write the usual poems for the 12 or 13 people as they come up, but we were hoping to do something a bit different. Having attended countless affairs, I find that most people don`t pay that much attention and after a while, it becomes a a bit tiresome. We`re looking for pizzazz and creative ideas that will make everyone stop to listen. Thanks. SZ

Anyone have any suggestions?

My daughter`s Bat Mitzvah is in September and her theme is Musical Theatre - don`t know your theme, but if it has anything to do with music, perhaps songs can be sung instead of poems -if it`s sports, perhaps you can put the words to tunes from sports like "Take me out to the Ballgame`, etc.

Did you come up with any alternatives to candlelighting as I am looking for ideas myself? You are most likely ahead of me as my son`s bar mitzvah is a ways off so anything you have to offer is greatly appreciated.

My friend purchased trees in Israel and instead of calling people up to light a candle, they said plant a tree. They made little tree out of toothpicks and green cotton balls and stuck them on a map of Israel. That way, they planted 13 trees in Israel and had a different candle lighting!

Hre`s one! Instead of writing a poem, have them write a poem for you. The MC will call them up, and music will beplayed as they walk up but instead of it bneing about them,. Make it about you!
