Rolled Fondant Cake

I have made several weeding cakes with rolled fondant and am very pleased with them. However when doing a stacked cake where the layers sit on top of each other I usually put a ribbon or piping between the layers because it looks like a space between. I have seen pictures where they have nothing and I would like to know how to do this so the layers look like they are sitting close together.
