How Much Did You Spend On Your Quinceanera?

I`m doing a magazine story on Quinceaneras and I`m trying to get an idea of how much total is spent on these celebrations ... Thanks for your input!

Therese, I think it depends on where you live and how you do it. I live in Delaware we had just moved to the area from Pennsylvania so most of our family and friends are in Pennsylvania so we are having the Sweet 16 there. It would have been cheaper in Delaware (no taxes) but it was better for 3 people to travel than for 150 to travel and besides, she lives with my parents during the week so that she didn`t have to change schools or leave her Girl Scout troop. I tried looking for a Community Center that could be decorated nicely and found none. I went with a place on Delaware Avenue but I asked for their Showroom (kind of like a huge ballroom). The pricing that they gave me for $6000 included a 3 course dinner and dessert for 150, DJ, Decorator and Baker. I found that to be great. It was cheaper than trying to get the Community center, find a caterer, rent the items for the buffet dinner to be served on, dishes, glassware and things like that. Her gown was $350, shoes $25, accessories, photographer, videographer, cinderella carriage ride to and from, things like that are what seems to be the cheapest of the actual party. Centerpieces, favors, the gifts (bible, Pink Sapphire earrings and ring things like that for the ceremony) were not so expensive either. All in all, I think we spent $15k and that included a small used car and a trip to Costa Rica for the summer (she is a Girl Scout so we put that as her gift). I made a lot of things like her table number, dolls, etc... I have our budget placed in an Excel spreadsheet and I put in what I was willing to spend and from there, I totaled it up and there is another cell that has the information for how much I spent already and that is from all of the things that I turned into negative numbers to subtract from the tentative pricing. I also put in the actual cost before I subtracted the prices. Now, I plan to make some of the money back by selling the gown since I know that she will never wear it again and we have no little one to pass it down to and even if we did, I would want for her to have her own choice. It seems to me that things are so expensive in Philadelphia. I really think it depends on where you live.
