Interracial Weddings
Hi! I`m new here. Was wondering if anyone is planning an IR wedding? If so - maybe we can exchange a few tips?

Wow, I am really curious as to what you mean by this? What is there to make different because it`s interracial, are you meaning, inter cultural? I am mixed but look totally white like Mariah Carey, and my husband to be is black, but we are just getting married in total love like everyone else.I am soooo grateful to have found my soulmate in Christ. I hope you have too.To me color or race has never mattered and it shouldn`t to anyone.I`m sorry, I just hate how the world focuses so much on what race people are......who cares.Jesus died for all of us.I wonder are you meaning cultural things like jumping the broom, or something like that? Cause` the way you phrased it, sounded kind of a trip. But tell me more. I want to hear.I hope yours is truly blessed.

I was referring to Interracial. My fiance and I are both of the same religion (Baptist), so the cermony itself isn`t a problem. We`re both military and race has never been an issue with us.
There is a distinct difference in the planning though. For instance - My fiance`s "home" minister was not keen on marrying us simply because we were an IR couple and more or less told us that. I was wondering how others facing this problem dealt with it. As this is my fiance`s "home" church where his elderly parents have been members for yeeears, I`m inclined to bite my tongue and listen to his remarks on how marrying outside one`s race proves more of a trial than a blessing - simply for his parents. I have little patience - especially with a minister who`s views are borderline prejudice.
So..my post were more or less for someone to buddy with that may be going through the same or similar problems :)
Also, was curious about the best vendors to purchase cake toppers w/IR bride and groom from. With my first marriage, I went through COAST and purchased a beautiful one for under $40 - can`t seem to find them online anywhere :( That was of course nearly 15 years ago.
I agree w/your view on being a Christian. My late husband and I were firm believers - and that`s how we raised our daughter.

I must say that I am kind of shocked and really dismayed at what you are experiencing from this man of the church. That is pretty unbelievable.I wonder what part of the country that is in, cause` all the Pastors that I come in contact with in the Los Angeles area would never come off like that. That is nuts for him to tell you that it`s more of a trial than a blessing.Wow.That shows his flesh and his human side for sure.Thank GOD,GOD is Not like that. All marriages are gonna have troubles at some point, and IR marriages may have some different ones, and alot depends on where you live as to the climate of that, but hey, if yall love each other and are committed than no one can come in between that. That is the devil tryin` to lie, kill and destroy, which is what he is all about.I am soooo sorry that you are experiencing anything like that from so called Church people, that is absolutely not what church, fellowship,or the Christian faith is about.I may not be going through that in the same way that you are but being mixed and looking white I can talk to you about alot cause` of the whole family thing and life experiences with all that being the only pale one around always, and whoa, you should see how the police used to stop me and my chocolate skinned boyfriend and try to humiliate him in front of me and all this, but you know.......they couldn`t mess with the love that we had,and they eventually would always have to back down, cause` they even would catch on and see that what was between us was real.Forget all the ignorant people! Girl, all you can ever do is "take the plank out of your own eye" as it says something like in the Bible about just tending to your own things you need to work on, and not be trippin` off other peoples.Just be strong and read your word and it will gird you up to fight against those nasty lil` fiery darts that devil is tryin to throw at you through the stupid words or actions of some people. He whispers in many ears and puts spirits in people, but you don`t have to listen to what they put out to you. You know what`s right in your heart.I`m on your side!!!

Oh,also, I was gonna say that I can`t remember where but I only saw one interracial couple cake top.Me, I am going to have a cross in glass or gold or something on top of the cake. You don`t have to have people up there, you can have whatever you want. What I did for my cousins cake top was paint the people brown with brown nailpolish cause` we couldn`t find andy good black couple caketops, but this was before I had the internet too.It was a lil` hard painting it so delicately to make it look nice but I pulled it off and everyone loved the whole cake top with the people that I made, so it worked out.I hope you find the one you want.I will keep an eye out and if I see one I will post the link for you.

I`ve been married to my husband for almost a year, but we didn`t get to do the ceremony. He`s white and I`m black. We`ve decided to do the ceremony on our one year anniversary. The saddest part about interracial weddings is definitely the pastor that won`t marry you because you are an interracial couple, but the frustrating part is trying to find things for your wedding that have an interracial couple on them (i.e. Cake toppers). I`m glad to hear that someone else understands.

Life for you must be sad......it shows in your grammer any ways...instead of showing how ignorant you really are with the so called belitting of other races....learn of them....open your heart before opening your mouth, its good to learn rather than assume........... And if your daughter should bring home someone of a different race i think instead of insulting her and slandering him learn about the young man..you may be amazed...interracial relationships are on the uprise.....and there will be more relationships to come in the future.... Give your daughter the chance to experience life herself....because you want to be narrow minded doesnt mean your daughter has to be as well..... Its the year 2002 .... Its time to stop with the racial tones and learn to shake hands... You never know you may have shaken my hand ......take care my friend

Siobahn, I`m sure that idiot wouldn`t even understand or hear what you`re trying to enlighten them with.Yea, it is sad, sad, sad. I can`t believe someone would actually be that stupid in this day and age, and would even take the time to write such ignorance. Of course they hide behind a computer sayin` all that. We know that they are really scared and that`s why they say they feel that way, even if it was a joke or just their complete stupidity. Only people who are scared deep inside are gonna talk like that or think they feel that way, cause they can`t deal with differences.Which is what makes us beautiful. Ignorance is fear! Racism is fear! Trying to put someone else down to lift yourself up is sooooo obviously showing your insecurities! I hope that person, you,go to GOD and ask HIM to enlighten you and lift the heavy hate and negativity off of you, and to help you take those wrongly colored glasses off.

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to say that I`m having some trouble with it too. I`m facing a couple of issues with the cake topper situation. One being that my fiancee is black & I`m korean/white. I came across a website that has military cake toppers, which i think is neat since we`re both military, they only have the men in uniform, which is fine, because i wanted to have the wedding dress on the topper anyway, but the second problem is that he`s an officer, and they only show enlisted uniforms. I`m korean/white, but I look Puerto Rican. Most of the interracial toppers that I`ve found, focus on black/white couples. I did come across some really cute precious moment ones, though, and I`m thinking about buying those. Probably in the end, though, I`ll probably just end up buying a religious cake topper, which I`d like to do anyway being that we`ve made it a point to focus our relationship/marriage around the Lord. I anyone comes across a caketopper that is hispanic(woman)/black(male), please let me know! =)

Instead of trying to find invitations with interracial couples, why don`t you try doing your own invitations. There are many craft stores with all the supplies you need. The Internet is a good place to get ideas from also!

Just an idea - as far as toppers one option is flowers or some other item that is important to you both - just my 2 cents... I`m not going to have a topper per se with a groom and bride - gets tricky with the right images and all for us (i`m black and my fiance is white)...the other re: the invites their are alot of programs out there - on the computer that you would be able to make on your own. You could scan your picture of the two of you, print up what you want to say and paste the 2 images on some nice heavy paper from a place like Paper Warehouse or Craft store. Recently helped my girlfriend and her husband get their invites together with a couple of other friends - `sides its a great excuse to get together...

I would really like help finding custom cake toppers. Not only is it an iterracial wedding (I`m mostly Black and He`s mostly Native American)- my wedding dress is green! I don`t know where to look. I have found some decent toppers (with the brides in white dresses) but also, the brides have long hair. Mine is short and curly - it grows up and out, not down.
The wedding was supposed to be August `03 but we`ve moved it to this coming November. So I only have about six weeks!
I can be emailed at chocolategoddess@hotmail.com

On the cake toppers score, I would suggest the interchangable caketoppers. That`s what my fiance and I are doing for our wedding.

Many brides are going with fresh flowers or gumpaste flowers on the top tier instead of the traditional cake top. If you can`t find anything suitable, you might consider that.

Kali.......I am also planning my wedding. Although I have two years to plan, I`m starting early seeing as how I know I will run into a few problems with this type of wedding. I also planned my cousins wedding. Her husband is Mexican and she is black. My husband is Puerto Rican and I am black. Also my sister in law maybe able to help, she is white and my brother is black. WE`ve all been there, so just let me know if you need anything. Blindheart.com is a good site to start with. I also bought books from Barnes and Nobles about each religon, faith and culture to intertwine ideas for the wedding. I`m about to start an Interraical Wedding Planning compnay to help couples like us. You would think in this day and age, it would be booming!

Hi everyone! I`m having a wedding in about six months--June 15 of this coming year, and I would like to have an interracial cake top. My favorite all time is Precious Moments, but I am not sure if they even have a white bride and a black groom, or even just normal figurines we could pair up even if they aren`t in a wedding dress and tux. Does anyone know about anything like that? I`ve checked all the web sites that were mentioned, and while there were some pretty interracial couples, they seemed too doll-like for my liking, like the Playskool Dollhouse figurines my little sisters still have. I want something either more elegant, or more cutesy like Precious Moments. I hope I`m making sense! Also, I`ve been looking through invitation catalogs, and I really like the ones with the little boy kissing the little girl on the cheek and what not, but of course all the ones like that are both white. Does anyone know of invitations that would be appropriate for my fiancee and I? It`s not that I`m trying to focus on the fact that we`re so different, it`s that I`m reveling in the fact that we`re so beautiful together BECAUSE we`re so different looking. And that`s what I want everyone else to see.
If someone could please let me know any info, I`d appreciate it. Thanks,
Manda

Precious Moments does have black, white, asian, and hispanic brides and grooms. Check www.blindheart.com website. They also have two awesome cake toppers (keepsakes) done in black groom/white bride and white groom/black bride.

I`m producing a story about interracial weddings for WNYC, a member station of National Public Radio. I spoke with a wedding planner recently who told me that an interracial wedding is exactly the same as any other kind of wedding. I know this may be true for some, but my intuition (and some of the posts on this site) tell me that it`s not true for everyone.
I`d love to talk with any of you who have had trouble finding the right accessories for your wedding day, encountered resistance from your community or family, or simply had unexpected problems stemming from the fact that your wedding is interracial.
My deadline is coming up in early January, so if you wouldn`t mind telling me a little about your experiences, please email me at newstemp1@wnyc.org. I will not record or repeat anything you say without your permission.
Finally, my research for this story has led me to some good resources for interracial caketop figurines:
Www.jwcaketops.com (this company mixes and matches many different races, in many different skin tones)
For greeting cards and possibly wedding invitations, try www.meltingpotgifts.com.
Thanks so much! I hope to hear from you.

I received an engagement ring for Valentine`s Day this year. We have not set a date, but we aren`t in a hurry. My finace is black & I am white. Beliefs between 2 different races may be different, but everyone needs to remember that love is love no matter what color, race or nationality you are. Underneath our skin, we are all made the same & bleed the same. I truly believe that if you truly love someone, it doesn`t matter where they are from. Congratulations to all of you that are in the process of planning your wedding & thanks for the suggestions on where to look for interracial wedding favors. God Bless.

FYI jumping the broom is NOT a black thing. It is from many places. Anyways, i am planning an IR wedding and there are many concerns, particularly an experienced photographer and videographer. We can`t have a ghost and a good looking black guy or a blacked out guy and a well exposed white gal. We need to both be seen.

I am a white woman marrying a black man. I do not like anything commercially available for interracial cake toppers. They are very ugly. Not to mention they take the same guy and just paint his face and hands. The features aren`t even african. Any comments?

Im a white woman marrying a black man and we got our cake topper at blindheart.com some of theirs are just like you said kinda "featureless" but i got a really nice one its called "indivisible love" ive already got it its beautiful!! the features are "real" and its not like the others(just painted faces) its real porcelain . Go to the websight and take a look at that one.. Click to enlarge and u can get a good idea of what it looks like

I would say to look away from trying to find the black and white people and go for flowers, birds, bells, etc. Becasue they will be ugly and/or expensive. I feel the same about the cake tops. The b;lindheart.com one is ok, but she looks puerto rican. I might just go for some bells or other inanimate objects that are symbolic.

I mostly agree with the above posting...again, after months of searching i did find the interracial invitations on meltingpotgifts and they were nice faceless images but i ended up getting some really nice "regular" invitations from rexcraft.com for a lot less than the interracial ones. As far as the cake topper.. I got the one from blindheart ans the girl is totally "white looking" and the guy is not some overly exaggerated ethnic looking thing both of them are really nice and normal looking ..

Yes i like the indivisible love, but I still say she looks Puerto Rican, well, that`s my opinion. I might buy it anyway. I wonder if I could paint her hair brown? Anyways, any ideas on how to find a decent photographer? I am so fair and my fiance is sooooo dark...

Ok i was gonna give you some info but im in miami so that wont help.. I guess the best bet is to get some test photos from the photographer of your choice way ahead of time to make sure they know what they`re doing im thinking about that issue too im very fair and my fiance is very dark.. But our photo package includes an engagement photo to be done b4 hand so we`ll make sure (for the most part) that he can handle the contrast...
