Beach Wedding Favors

Hello brides,
I am having my dream wedding on the beach at the end of April. I still haven`t decided on the favors for my guests. I want to do something crafty myself that has the beach theme, but it needs to be inexpensive at the same time. I already have bubbles, but want something special the guests can take home to remember the day by. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Thanks,
Merrie

I had a friend that used sand dollars as favors at her wedding--she glued a ribbon at the top of each one so they could double as Christmas ornaments, and had them in a small gift box at each guest`s seat. I know they were on a budget and I`m sure there are shell wholesale places somewhere online.

Merrie,

I am also getting married in April and we have decided on a beach/ocean theme. I was really stuck on favors and wanted to do something cheap and attractive. This is what I came up with:

I went to our local Dollar Store and found some little bud vases and some colored stones that look like beach glass. I put the glass in the vases and then poured gel (for gel candles) and placed a wick (for gel candles) in it. I tied the neck of the bottle with raffia and then glued a shell in the middle of the raffia bow (we collected the shells in Rhode Island) I made tags for the vases out of parchment paper and cut the four edges with shears that made wavy edges. I went to Ames and bought a rubber stamp with a earthy, sun design and a gold ink pad. I stamped the sun on the front of the folded tag and wrote "until the ocean doesn`t touch the sand" on it and our names and date of the wedding.

Hope all of this rambling helps!!

Congratulations and good luck!

Merrie,

I just thought of another idea.......how about making tiny scrolls, made from parchment paper, with a saying, names and date of marriage, etc. And tying it with a small piece of raffia. Put a layer (small) of sand, beach glass, shells, etc. In bottom of vase and then put the scroll in and place a cork on top!

Thank you for the wishes..........

Congratulations on your wedding!!

I bought Sand dollars to make into Christmas ornaments. Our names and wedding date are going to be written on the back. However, the sand dollars are to fragile to be written on and to make the trip. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I could put on them to harden them?

Sand dollars can be hardened by dipping them in 1/2 water, 1/2 Elmer`s glue and hanging them to dry. This makes a very hard surface. If you do not like the smell, add a little peppermint flavoring or mint. It works.

I am getting married in the Keys in March, and am having a tropical/beach theme for my wedding....I`ve been debating the favor thing too and have been considering getting shells or starfish to make magnets rather than the ornaments. They`re pretty cheap down here and with a glue gun and some magnet stuff I figure I could make them pretty easily. What would you guys think about those as favors if you were attending????

I`m doing a beach wedding in August 04, and decided to make candles! I saw something similiar in a craft book, and it looks great...
You can buy or collect the shells, then just clean them out well, and use some of the clear gel wax. Heat the wax, pour into a shell with a wick and let dry. I sampled a couple different methods, and ended up using clear gel wax, with our names and date written on the inside of the shell. Also, if you get the temperature of the wax just right, it looks like water - it will leave air bubbles in the wax when it cools. You can also use blank white mailing labels to cover the metal base of the wick.
My maid of honor and myself had a great time at our candle making party! It was pretty inexpensive - you can get the wax in large quantities.

Good luck everybody - and congratulations!

Michaels Craft store sells small clear glass ornaments. They come in different shapes usually too. You can usually get them for 50 cents or less a piece. Fill them with some sand and small shells. Write your names and date on the outside with a paint pen ( they come in all colors). Attach a loop of raffia for hanging. Instant ornament.
I think I`m doing this for my beach wedding. Everyone I`ve told seems to like the idea.
Hope this helps.
