It`s good you are thinking about what you want to do someday...Though you are too young to have a busienss for a long time yet.

In high school, you might find a job with a cateror or other service. THere are classes on design (if you like dresses), indeed whole college degrees in it!

I can;t tell what you are interested in, so I can`;t comment much. But there is money in the wedding business, and so if you really want to get into it, go ahead and do it someday!

Hey, so out of curiosity, what sort of business would you want to have?

We would like to have the sort of buisness where we make and design the outfits. Make the cakes and plan the whole wedding for the brides bridesmaids and so on but not the men!!!

It`s nice to have a plan, girls. But you have to finish your educations first. When you get to high school, maybe you could get a part-time job with a caterer or a wedding consultant. That would give you some hands on experience. From what I hear, it`s very hard work and not particularly fun or glamorous. It`s service work and good consultants have to be ready to kiss a lot of bride butt...(lol)

If you truly want to design clothing, then you MUST go to a fashion design school. You MUST continue drawing because that is the only way you will ever get your ideas across to clients and a GREAT portfolio (and good grades) will be your ticket into an inexpensive fashion design school. Many of these schools are private and are expensive, but you will not get around the fact that you have to learn to be an artist.

If you are a good business person, you will go FAR and make $$$ in this business, too, but regardless, just stay focused and determined. If anything gets in your way, stand up to it (or them - take it as a challenge - prove them wrong!)

If the whole artist thing scares you, follow your business mind and follow the path to college, study business, and become a wedding planner!

Either way, just know that "Common Sense" is more like "Non Sense." Everyone else already knows this here. If you follow her advice, you will NOT be up for the competition to get into a good college.

As was just mentioned, if you want to design dresses, then you would need a college degree in design. It is essentially a type of art degree that puts you in the fashion business. You might see what the entrence requirements are to those schools and keep them in mind as you enter high school.

If you want to make wedding cakes, then that is a very different thing. For that (or for catering), you will cake decorating classes and loads of experience. You might consider culinary school. Catering is long, hard work, but if you really love food and everything about it and are high energy, then it might be worth doing! For cakes, there are of course bakeries that do nothing but cakes, and there are some pretty elaborate cakes out there!

If you want to help people design weddings (play with it all), then you might prefer running a bridal store (selling dresses and accessories) or becoming a wedding planner.

Whatever your path, see if you can get some summer job experience, even an internship. It is possible your high school or a local college has a relevant class. You might be able to find someone who would teach you in return for helping them out, or they might teach you for pay. That way, you discover if you really like the work! Plus, there is no such thing as starting too early or being "too focused"--your college admissions essay can be about your obsession with making cakes and how you`ve developed your skills all through school!

In high school, I taught myself (was home schooled). I taught myself philosophy and history, took Latin classes, and read material way over my heard because I liked the humanities so much. It helped me get a big scholarship. I came into college my freshman year wanting to be a college prof., and I am now in a Ph.D. Program in US history!

Thus, don`t feel that you have to have any strong interests right now, and you may well change your interests! But if you have strong interests now, nurture them and learn all you can. You`re never "too young" to chase what you love. :-)
