Help...email Scams

I am trying to sell a wedding dress online and keep getting emails from con artists offering to buy my dress and pay with a cashiers check - in an amount higher than my dress price. They want me to send them the dress and the remaining $$

I know this is a scam. But how do I stop them from emailing me in the first place? Or report them to the police so they don`t rip someone else off? I`ve gotten quite a few of these emails and it is quite irritating.

Unfortunately, I was a victim of this type of scam. In defense of my naivety, I posted my ad on a very small, "exclusive" website. Of course, I thought that any response would be completely legitimate since the audience would have been fairly small. Not so... I ended up losing $3500-- which is small compared to what some have lost with similar scams-- because my bank did not put a hold on the counterfeit cashier`s check that the guy paid me with. In hindsight, I would have done things differently. But then again, hindsight is 20/20. I chalk this down as a lesson learned and wish I had heard of this type of scam beforehand. Now, I hear about it all the time... Kudos to y`all for sharing your experiences. Hopefully, it`ll help someone avoid being scammed just because you know that you`re honest and assume that everyone else is as well!
