Cost For Renting A Dress?

Does anyone know the appropriate cost to rent a dress? i contacted one rental place and they would charge me about 45% of what it cost to buy the dress. My gut tells me that is way too much. Anyone have any idea if this is too much? my wedding date is approaching way to fast and i really like this dress. I wonder if i should just cough up the money. Thanks.

I think it depends on the dress you are renting.
I know places that charge few hundred to rent a dress and others that charge over a thousand.

Depending on the dress sometimes it`s cheaper to buy the to rent

Good Luck

Is $540 for a $1,400 dress too much to ask? they originally asked for $695 but i caught them in a lie so they offered to give me a discount and to not charge me for alterations. Since i caught them in a lie, i`m now suspicious of everything they say. Now i`m thinking tht $540 is too much.

It really scares me to think of a bride renting a gown for her wedding. Have you seen the gown? Has it been altered for someone before, and if so how are they going to alter it for you? Is there a contract to sign about cleaning the gown after or are they going to do that? This is one of the most important days of your life and I would suggest you try a different angle. Perhaps a copy, since it sounds like a designer. Can you give me more information with the designer name and style number? I really would like to help, because this sounds like a prelude to a disaster.

The dress is by christina wu. I don`t have the style # off hand. I don`t need to have it drycleaned afterwards. I`ve already tried on the dress. It looked brand new to me. It`s a size 6, and i`m a size four. They will alter it to fit my body. I have to go in for two fittings. I`m not sure how they will alter it, but since the original dress size is a 6, they will take out the seams and re-sew it to fit my body.

Ask them that when they resew the seams if they will cut the seam allowance or leave it in there. If they are leaving it in, ask if it will make it look "bunched up at the seams." Luckily you ar only a size different. Does the hem work or is it too long? Keep in mind it should be 3/4 of an inch off the floor. Will they also bustle it for you? That need to be done to your height also. Lastly, really check for fine print....about damages, tears, stains, etc. You already caught them in a lie. Please ask them a lot of questions.

Thank you for your kind suggestions! :)

The hem is fine and will probably not be altered. They said they don`t cut away the fabric, but fold it in. I definitely don`t want a bunched up look.

Thanks for your help. :)
