Planning A Wedding In Ireland

I am based in the US planning a wedding in Ireland for next year. I am looking for any suggestions that anyone might have, such as wedding planners, location, other vendors, etc. That has planned a wedding in Ireland from another country. Where do I start?

Hi,
I`m also looking to plan a wedding in Ireland. I`m also here in the US. I`ve found a website called http://www.world-weddings.net/ and just wrote to them. Not sure what exactly they do but I`m sure they can find you a consultant. I`m still researching via the web for information and came accross your posting. If you have any good information to share, please do.

Thanks,
Diane

Diane,

At this point since I posted the message, I am a lot further along. I have been on weddingsonline.ie, which has provideg a lot of useful information, not only from the vendor stand point, but from other B2B (brides-to-be).

We have also hired a wedding coordinator in Ireland to at least help us with sourcing venues and will be going there at the end of May to get everything sorted out.

Since we are already legally married, it is a lot easier since there are a lot of requirements. The web site has a lot of this information.

I think that I found the website you were referring to when I initially started searching, but didn`t consider myself having a destination wedding, since I was already married and having people "meet in the middle" in Ireland (my husband is from Germany).

Let me know if you have any questions. I almost consider myself an expert at this point and the wedding is a year away.

Goodness! We do have a lot in common. I`m also legally married. We`re having this wedding for our family & friends. Ireland is also a middle point between his family`s location and mine.
Originally, we were going to do it in Virginia Beach where he`s originally from, but I thought that`d be unfair since my family would have to travel quite a ways (from Malaysia). I thought UK would be a nice mid-point.
I`ve gone to the official Irish website since I responded to your posting. I`ve requested some information. At the moment, that`s all I have.
What I`m looking to do is have the ceremony on the beach, and the reception somewhere on a cliff with a nice view. We like being outdoors, hopefully the weather will be nice. Any ideas? Are there a lot of vendors with websites and emails? My wedding is going to be in August so I don`t really have much time. Please let me know how your trip in May goes and if you found a good caterer and baker. Where in Ireland will you have your wedding? I`m thinking Dublin for mine since it`s by the beach and is a big city -- easy to get to and get around in. I`m not sure though since I`ve not been there before.
Anyhow, this is not a very well written email. I`m basically still in the dark. I was trying to think of people I know that might know people in Ireland for information. So, anything you can share will be great. My email is dolowe@msn.com if you want to email me directly instead of posting messages this way. Any good information you can forward my way would be great! Thanks so much for responding.

Hello all,

I am Irish and will be getting married to my American fiancee in September 2003. Having lived here all my life and knowing the Irish weather- I can`t say I would recommend a beach wedding- the weather here is unpredictible to say the least and August does not guarantee a bright sunny day- If you have your heart set on a cliff wedding try the Cliffs of Mohair - a breathtaking sight. I`m not sure if they allow wedding there but you can try to get information on www.ireland.ie.

You will also find that a lot of the popular hotels/venues in your chosen area will be booked out well in advance. Most people in Ireland would get engaged 2 years before the wedding date to allow plenty of time to plan.

Hope this helps

I am also getting married in Ireland and will be married before we go. I am looking for a wedding planner in Ireland to find someone to perform the ceremony/blessing in an extremely informal outdoor wedding near Kinsale, in Co. Cork. If anyone has suggestions about a planner or locations in Kinsale I would love contact info.
Thanks

Sabine and everyone else-

Actually I posted that message over a year ago. My wedding is now in the US in June. We did attempt to make our arrangements in Ireland, however found the whole experience absolutely awful.

One suggestion that I have to everyone on the board regarding planning a wedding anywhere is to get a contract for the services and make sure that the planner listens to what your needs are.

Depending on your scenario, logistics could be an issue as well, especially if you have people coming from out of town. In my case 100% were.

Sabine- Please listen to your clients and make sure you understand their needs.

And my final advice is to not use Big Sister Enterprises based out of Dublin.

Dear Jill!

I wish you all the best with your upcoming wedding.
It doesn`t sound very good what you tell about your experience in Ireland.
I hope I will see good experiences as well regarding this topic in the future on this site.

Take care,

Sabine

I was thinking about getting married in Ireland. I am from the U.S. But my mother was born there and I have close family living there. I was thinking about having an outside wedding at the cliffs of mohair, if it is possible? And then rent out a pub maybe in Galway and have food, drinks and dancing. I was wondering if anyone has gotten married in Ireland that has any advice, ideas or contacts to pass on. In addition, does anyone have an idea of how much this would cost. I figured a destination wedding would be less expensive than getting married in or around Boston, MA. Please respond if you can help me in any of these areas. Thank you

Hey-I just wanted to know how things were going w/you..I have just decided I want to get married in Ireland. I am not sure if I still have any living relatives over there (sad to say) but that is where my heritage is from. We have set a date here but I am actively looking into an Ireland wedding.
I`d love for you to share any info you come across as you plan..Thanks so much!

I am also planning on getting married Ireland in March 2008. Ideally I`d like it to be waterfront, although I know its pretty cold in March, so it probably wouldn`t be outdoors. Does anyone have good tips on websites, locations, etc? I JUST got engaged, so I`m in the very preliminary stages of planning!!
