Whose responsibility is it to throw a bridal shower?

Generally the maid of honor throws the shower. However, girlfriends and sisters often plan the bride`s wedding shower.

No one has the responsibility of throwing a shower. Showers are optional and a nice gesture. Often the maid of honor, bridesmaids, close friends, co workers will choose to throw showers. But it`s not mandatory.
