Registry Question

In other`s expeirence, did most of your guests purchase from your wedding registry? Or did they pick items out on their own?

I`m just trying to decide how long or short to make the list...Not sure if its best to give abundant suggestions or just to keep it to the basics....

Everyone was great in choosing things from my registry especially my family from out of town.

I knew my shower was going to be small so I didn`t put a lot on. But I`ve been checking it online and have been adding stuff because almost everything is being purchased.
So I`d say definitely do more than less. Plus it gives people more options on what they can buy you when they`re in the store.

I think it depends on where in the country you are. My daughter registered for her shower, and almost 100% of those gifts were purchased from the registry. Now for Wedding gifts we live near a large metropolitian area, here everyone gives cash/checks for the actual wedding gift, but her inlaws are from a smaller town and many of those who attended the wedding gave gifts some from the registry others on their own. I had never been to a Wedding that had more than two actual gifts on the gift table, my son-in-law said when he was growing up everyone brought wrapped gifts. So I think it depends....maybe big city vs country? Or different tradtions.

You need to make sure that their a wide variety of things on your registry....a lot of people want to get something that nobody else would get. You need to also make sure you have things that are cheap and expensive on there. A lot of people will chip in with a few others to get something a little bigger than normal things. Some want to get a lot of little things. Plus it doesn`t hurt to put a lot on your registry...nothing happens to the stuff you don`t get. You will actually find that you will get more stuff from your registry for your showers than your wedding day. A lot of people will give money for a gift at the wedding.

Leslie has a point about different price ranges. I enjoy doing theme baskets for showers. They always get oohs and ahs and they are fun to shop for. So if you have kitchen gadgets on there I will buy a bunch of them with kitchen towels, dish towels, placemats, pot holders etc. Anything on the registry to go with my theme and to fill the basket.
I`ve down bathroom baskets with towels, washcloths, soapdish, water glass, lotion dispenser etc. One time I bought a wok, tools for it, a wok cook book, fortune cookies and chop sticks.
For a baby shower I bought the diaper bag and then filled it with diapers, wipes, teething rings, thermometer etc, well you get the idea! So have a good mixture of things with all different price ranges.

Thanks, everyone, the input really helps! I`ve never been through the ropes before, so to speak.

The feedback helps a lot--it sounds like putting a lot on the registry is a good thing and that I can`t really go "too long." It`ll give everyone a lot of options, and if a lot of folks buy gifts, then they`ll be suggestions there! So far everything I have on there ranges from $10 to a lot, so there should be something for all.

BTW, that gift basket idea is a wonderful one! I will have to keep that in mind for other people`s showers.
