Super Sweet 16 Reality Show

I took the time to watch this reality show on MTV and was very shocked, amazed and a little disapponted. I watched last night while 2 young ladies had their Sweet 16`s together. Their Sweet 16 was $100,000.00 and they were looking to have Beyonce at it but she wanted 1/2 million so they settled for another type of band something like Red Hot Chili Peppers. The Sweet 16 was at a Hard Rock Cafe, the girls shopped for their dresses at Gucci and it was very amazing. It didn`t surprise me that the young ladies on this show received 2004 Benz and Escalades. Another show that they showed was a young lady who flew to Paris to buy her gown, cried to her father that her mother cancelled her credit cards and the gowns were amazing with price tags that cost more than my co-worker`s daughters Quince (I think she spent $10,000 very modest amount for 150 people). This young lady`s gown was almost $25,000. I can`t believe this show. When they were on here asking about young lady`s being on this show, I was expecting to see nice young ladies who were brought up in a modest environment with loving parents, not whining, crying spoiled brats who are more interested in the price tag they are spending and not the whole reason behind what a Quince or Sweet 16 really means. I was ashamed for those girls on the show. There are young ladies on this board who have allowed me to see their Quince pictures and their Quince looks like it is worth a million dollars and they have very symbolic rituals that they do with their families and it means something. None of the girls on this show even had a cake! It wasn`t elegant like many of the pictures that I have seen on here. Ladies do yourself a favor and make your Quince or Sweet 16 mean something more than just "I am spending 1/4 of a million and I want and I better get..." Appreciate what your family does for you and stay as modest as you are. Be a class act. Good Luck with your planning and God Bless.

I totally agree with you. I wrote to the creators of the show very excited about my sweet sixteen party and they emailed me back with a list of questions to be answered one of them asking specificly about prices I believe. Well, needless to say I never got a response from them after I told them my party wasn`t going to cost the price of a house and that my parent`s weren`t going into debt to celebrate my 16th birthday. Of course my party was a moderatly priced one as you mentioned in the the 10,000 dollar area but obviously that wasn`t enough for them. When they didnt respond my mom and I spoke with a decorating company who said they had ties to them. They told us that they were looking for someone who was spending 20,000 dollars on their party or higher. I was kinda heartbroken after hearing that because I realized that`s why I NEVER got a response from them. Being a teenager mtv is important to my life lol and I didn`t vow never to watch the channel again but I did watch the show and felt really upset because to be honest my party rocked even if it didnt cost a fortune and my party went on without mtv being there!

I watched the show with the 2 girls and it was total chaos!!! I couldn`t believe that show and I surely couldn`t believe that people would spend that type of money on a party. I can see a very elaborate wedding but not a party like that. I signed up for it and a lady responded asking me about the cost, where it was going to be and how many people. I told her approx $10 to$12 thousand and that cost included a car that my parents boought for me (used) and they "pimped" it a little. It is very nice. I love the car, even if it is only a Neon. I told her that the party was going to be in a hall and there would be approx 200 people mostly family and friends whom I am very close to. I told them that I would have mostly girls in my court and do you know they have the nerve to ask me if I wanted to be on a reality show about a Latino Lesbian who wants to have a girl escort her. I said, I was not asking about that kind of Quince, I wanted to know about the other show. When I saw the show, I was not impressed. They spent a lot of money but it looked cheap and unplanned. The girls reminded me of Paris and Nicky Hilton arriving to do a promotion. They waved like they were Miss America and down talked a lot of people. I wonder if they have any friends after that? I like MTV but I was upset over that because a party doesn`t have to be a million bucks to look like a million bucks! I wonder if they wanted hispanics at all because it looks like rich white people so far.

I totally agree..I watched it as well and I wondered why the creators posted here as they truly working looking for normal people having wonderful and elegant parties for their children. The sad part is that a lot of kids watch this and think that is how it should be...another bad example courtesy of MTV

I also Agree i thought i could get ideas from it,
Instead i saw the spoild brats on the show who cared more of the priced tags then the meanning. Its supposed to be thankful to your parents for allowing you to have it and paiing for it not getting mad at them,
Alsohave it with friends and family shareing the night you enter adulthood!! that show need more modest people then rich spoiled brats that take out the whole meaning of it!!!

I found the show to be an insult to Quinceaneras and Sweet 16`s. I can`t be upset because it is MTV. Look at Spring Break, One Bad Trip and their other shows. What made me think that they were really going to show elegant, modest, religious ceremonies. They have people talking about their programming all over the news and web... "MTV has clearly chosen to cater to the lowest common denominator, to offer the cheapest form of programming to entice young boys … dangling forbidden fruit before their eyes," said Brent Bozell, PTC president and conservative activist. I thought both of the sweet 16`s that they showed were classless and tasteless. One looked like a "Spring Break" episode with streakers running through her Sweet 16, mother drunk and offering her shots and the other looked like Jerry Springer hosting the Spring Break with the fight and the mosh pit and such. It is tacky and it doesn`t show young ladies going into adulthood. It showed spoiled bratty cry babies demanding their parents mortgage a house for their day. It was an insult to what true Sweet 16 and Quince`s are.

I watched the show for the first time last night while a young lady who had nothing but spoiled brat tantrums from the start to the finish was rewarded with a sweet 16 that cost $200,000 and a brand new Range Rover. Her mother flew to Paris to shop for her dress but finally put her foot down when she saw the gown that she chose. Still to have purchased 2 custom made gowns for the young lady. I was even more surprised to find that the young lady`s mother was muslim and did nothing to cover up the young lady or show her humility or modesty. This girl`s arabian theme party was really nice but from what I could see, she didn`t deserve it one bit. I was mortified when she called her mother a b**** and instead of going home to apologize to her mother, she went to live with her father. I found that she played both parents against each other. The final touch was when she got the SUV, her father said that it came with a price tag, she had to respect her parents to get the car. They had to bribe this cow for respect, no wonder she has none for them. Typical MTV trash.

I watched the show about the one who flew to Paris for her dress and cried for a Range Rover. I just gave my Daughter a Quinceanera in November 2004, and I am now planning my nieces Sweet Sixteen for October of this year. I will never again watch that show. Its completely a waste pf time. Its ashame to see that kids can really act like that. Money doesnt buy happiness. Love is what makes a house a home. Wonder why her parents are divorced, huh?

I work for national TV and I suggested we follow some real nice families out there who are planning a Quinceañeras....US middle class style. Ideally the Quinces would be in the New York area...so that we can follow the family and the quinceañera around for quite a bit.

I would love to talk to some of the awesome people that are part of this site....and see if there are any chances we could work something out.

Please reply with your email. Thanks!

I think the whole show is a disgrace. They were not kidding when they stated wealthy parents/families who don`t care about the money they are spending. They took away from the whole meaning of a coming out/debutante party. This is really trash.

My daughters 15 is goinh to br for 9/06 it is however in miami but i am sure ntl tv station has affiliates in miami would love to show the world a true geniune trdistional 15 and the hardships and sacrefices real families that want to celebrate this latin tradiotion go through the ups and down the limits and how beautiful it all comes out. My daughter has 2 other friends that are due to have their 15 next year as well i do choreographe as a hobby for 15 and am finding my own daughters is going to be a challage economically if she is even able to have one . Non the less i think follwing 3 friends to their special day how they help each other and how their differance reflect the end result of each would be an interesting theme to a show. Please reply.
