How cool! Maybe you could have your engagement pictures taken in black and white and have your hair in 50`s style. Then have it blown up poster board size and display it, at the reception. Also I think all those old wedding pictures are so neat looking. Can you get your grandparents, parents greatgrandparents wedding pictures and display on the gift table, or where you have you guest book. Good luck and if I can think of anything else I will let you know, but great idea, hope itpans out for you.

Instead of renting a limo, you can rent a `50`s car. They were all hugh. I have a friend that just rented one last summer (her husband was into antique cars). It was a hugh black 4 door. Still thinking!

Hi again!
How about stars, I`m thinking silver and black for your colors(not the bridesmaids dresses unless you want to). But everything should be glittery, silver . Large silver stars on the floor (could be simple posterboard, cut out and painted.) If you could find old film canisters use them as accessories(You could find these at antique stores for cheap I would think)or just ask friends, my grandparents still have old home movies of my Mom and Dad and they are in smaller sized film canisters. Spotlights....at the reception Favors could be star themed.....let me think some more!!!!

Hi again!
I love this theme! How about director chairs with BRIDE and GROOM on the back. You can be announced at the reception using a megaphone(like old time directors used). For favors, you could start with Martini glasses(I`m sure you could find plastic).Tie silver ribbon around them with bows and you could fill them with silver jordan almonds....)I`ve seen them sold online at a lot of different favor sites). You could have one of those black clapboards and your names written in silver...or something like "A true Love Story" Take 1.... Probably could find this somewhere online also! Let me go think some more!

How about using a "red carpet" when you are arriving and being announced at your reception.

Great idea! How about serving martinis and playing love songs from the 50s. Maybe some Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennete, etc. I once saw a bridesmaid dress in s sheer sea foam fabric. It was strapless and cut straight across the chest. It had a thin belt made from the same fabric and rhinestone clasp. Instead of flowers the bridesmaid had a flowered wrist band. There are so many ideas from the 50s!! You can do something upscale with the groomsmen dressed in black pants, white jackets and black bow ties. Just like James Bond, Rock Hudson and all those galant actors. The bridesmaids can wear cocktail style dresses from the 50s like Katherine Hepburn, Jackie O, Doris Day, etc. OR, you can go for a fun 50s look and have them in pastel gowns with puff skirts or pencil skirs, twin sweater sets or strapless dresses, short white gloves, rhinestone glasse and buffant hairdos. Think Grease or the B52s! You definitely should have a convertible Studebaker or Cadillac to wisk you away! At the reception when they introduce the wedding party you can do a rendition of the song Summer Loving from Grease. You and the Bridesmaids sing the part of the pink Ladies and the groom can do John Travolta and his gang. I bet it will be a riot!! No guest will forget it and they`ll probably sing along. As a treat I would have malts, shakes and sundaes at the end of the reception for the guests to enjoy. It would be great to let the guests know the theme and have them dress the part. I would definitely have a black and white photo for the invitation and dress the part. I saw one once of two little kids kissing over a shake. The little girl was wearing a poodle skirt and scarf and the boy was very cute and preppy. Good luck!

I am having a 1950`s themed wedding. The ceremony will be outside. I am thinking of having the groomsmen wear top hats and pinguin suits. I am having trouble with the girls attire. I know I want them to wear gloves and long dresses, maybe mermaid style. What should I do? I need more ideas for decorating the reception too. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi there
I am a 50`s enthusiast - love the clothes, the music - everything! Anyway, for anyone looking for an authentic 50`s wedding dress, I am selling an amazing embroidered 1950`s halterneck ivory dress, size 10 - and an absolute bargain; it`s covered in thousands of hand-embroidered beads and is couture! Just thought it might be of interest for someone wanting a dress that`s different but still elegant - it`s

I`ll definitely be keeping an eye on the forum for ideas for my own wedding! flyingpickett x

What about 1950`s cookie jar nestled on a bed of pink carnations for your certepieces. You can also have pink, white and aqua colored balloons attached to 45`s or LP`s albums. Then you can create a bunting with pink, white and aqua colored ribbons or toole to hang around the main table and the cake table.

I am having a 50`s style wedding, but havent started thinking about the finer details yet, all i know is that I want pastel shades, with bunting outside and a cupcake tower wedding cake. My bridesmaids will wear prom style puffy dresses in pastel aqua or pink, but that is as far as have got. I also want a pink cadillac and maybe a juke box, but where do i draw the line between 1950`s shabby chic and hollywood glam? I am really stuck on invites, favours, gifts and centre pieces. Help!!! :-)

Ps- is martinn glasses on arrival too hollywood? and is it suitable to give an engraved cocktail shaker with a bottle of jack daniels to the bst man?

I am having a 50s wedding but a more relaxed one. The bridesmaids are wearing poodle skirts and the groomsmen are wearing Varsity letter sweaters! The reception will be decorated hip hop and the food will be car hop type foods in burger baskets. Hoola hoop contests, yo yo contests and 50s music will all be going on. The cake will have coke bottles pillars and table decor will have soda flowers and coke vases. We just wanna have fun

Im having a 1950`s wedding also, and I can`t seem to find the right invitations. The movie tickets seemed awesome, but they also lacked some elegance.... MAN I AM SO FUSTRATED.. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it

I am also doing a 1950`s theme i have gone to vinies and gotten old clocks and radios for our centerpieces and for the invitations we took a photo on an old pocket watch and put our initials in the middle. I have found some good wedding favours and decorations on www.pinkfrosting.com.au in the vintage wedding section for favours i am thinking an old photoframe you can get from pink frosting and having an photo on my fiancee and me taken with in black and white and putting the date on the photo.

Ok, so after having scrapped my original concept altogether in which I couldn`t mash up what I always wanted style wise with my fiance`s family colors (there was a big dust up when his sister wouldn`t let the men in their family wear their kilts or represent the clan colors) I`m no longer going to go with my plum/olive colored autumn wedding. However, since the week before he and I met he threw a coin in Trevi Fountain and that I`ve always had a love for vintage style I`ve decided to go with a Roman Holiday theme. I`ve been looking at Unique Vintage online and looking at other vintage gown sites and will dress up my brides maids and man of honor in 50s style cocktail dresses and a sharp Italian style suit (all in the bright blue and red colors of the clan of course).

I`m thinking of having gloves for myself and the girls in my party, a bird cage veil and have been looking into making a decor of white paper lamps and string lights suspended over the tables, the large paper lamps being somewhat extensions of the center pieces. I`m still early in the planning process but hopefully it`ll work.
